Radar Detector Theft

Just wondering how many people fall victim to Radar Detector theft? I ordered my V1 last week and am worried that someone will just break my windows and steal it. Do you guys just take it out when you leave your car or what?

Thanks

I have radar detectors in everything I drive including my bikes and I've never had a problem.

Is your neighborhood that bad?

If you hide it well, it should be ok.

I go out a lot. My neighborhood is fine, just when I go out and leave my car for a few hours...

V1's manual does ask you to put the detector in a glove compartment or else "you're asking for a break in", that did get my attention for like, the first two days, then i stopped caring. LOL. So far no theft. (Knockin on the wood).

Of course its inviting a break-in. Usually theives that break into cars are looking for something they can sell easily. I'd say a V1 is a good bet.

In my neighborhood, even some spare change in plain view puts you at high risk. It doesn't take much effort to break a window. And the TL's alarm won't go off if they don't open the door -- easy enough to reach in and grab the detector.

One of the reasons I got a stealth install down in my dash area for my Escort SRX. Cost me enough though...

In theory you could take your V1 out every time you leave your car, but in practice after a while you'll get lazy and leave it inside. Based on the assumption you'll leave it in your car, mount it as high as possible near the rear view mirror, behind the factory window tinting to obscure it. (Mounting it just above your dashboard with the nice, thick curled power cord exposed is like asking someone to steal it, not to mention you won't score points with the police.) Wire it to accessory power if at all possible so at night when it's parked no lights are visible from behind.

I have mounted mine on the visor. I am aware of the tint band, but so far it doesnt seem to have affected the performance of the detector. Good luck with yours Donkeykang
