Rack and pinion help 😡

Ok so I had to do my rack almost 2 months ago…now here we go popping clanking is back when I’m turning the wheels. Now I did get a deal from my boy from advanced but didn’t realize it’s a reman unit and now it’s already going bad…he is gonna get me my money back instead of changing it now my question is they have a couple new aftermarket units PWR and I think Cardone. Now I can get a good price and saw the price of the Oem and was like wow 😮. So not having any experience in this area. Why do your guys think of the higher new A/m units compared to oem…which they told me as well is on back order. Would you bite the bullet and go oem or is there a comparable non oem unit you’d go for? I’m so stressed being now also another $$$ for R&R. Thank you all in advance…got my 3x3 done and my big 3 very easily thanks 🙏. Need y’all again now 😂

If there's one thing I've learned about car parts, it's that you typically get what you pay for. OEM parts are expensive because they have the entirety of Honda behind it, from R&D, design, to manufacturing - making it specifically for certain vehicles. Not only are you paying for a quality part that's basically guaranteed to fit and work, you are paying for the peace of mind.

Not to say you can't buy parts from AutoZone and AAP. It's pretty subjective depending on what part it is. It just comes down to how much time, money, and effort it will cost you to NOT buy an OEM part.

The problem I had with reman is that all the site indicate part interchange all trim for 07-08 TL which partly true. The Type S has tighter ratio so if you get a base steering will be slightly slob, no I just bite the bullet and buy OEM, it suck that Honda doesn't do what Toyota does, OEM reman unit.

Are you sure the rack is the cause of your issues in the first place? Did anyone check ball joints or tie rods or steering u-joints, or even just a brake dust shield catching on something?

Did anyone inspect the OEM rack once it was removed so that you could pinpoint the failure point? Why did it fail?

If you're gonna just keep throwing racks at it, LMK. I'll buy stock in those companies :P

Joking aside....aftermarket parts aren't the same quality as OEM (reflected by the price difference). But if the new one failed in the same way in 2 months time....it just opens up other suspicion.

the old one was hard to turn and made creaking non stop while turning and this one wasn’t new it was a reman part. And yest check joints and bushing tried moving them with a pry bar and didn’t see any cracks or broken rubber

Lower ball joints sometimes fail like that. Does the creaking go away when you raise the car off the ground?
