Yes, the normal noise it makes when starting. But I think its too loud. Doesn't sound healthy. I had a friend that had a 2007 TL but his was not so loud. I know the 05s have different starters but still, just wondering if anyone makes one that is quieter. And I suppose that a new one of my same OEM would be quieter.. I guess.. right? Haha

^there are no special starters for our cars. special meaning, there is not a "more quiet one"

you either get an OEM one or a re-manufactured one.

Not sure why you would need a quieter starter. I haven't seen any besides OEM.

what do you mean it's too loud? does it start the car? if so unless it's making some unusal noise, it's normal.

The only intelligent response so far. And what I am seeing, there are no specially made ones unless you find one like

A.D.D. has been redefined. Instead of not being able to focus, it now means, and applies to people who are starving for attention. If people don't pay attention to you, then you have an "Attention Deficit". That is the new Attention Deficit disorder

Chad, looks like everyone has caught on to what I've known for a while. And I'm sure you will do great on your run, 120lb buys usually have great cardio.

Back on topic, the noise generated by the "starter" is 90% gear noise from the starter's pinion on the flywheel/flexplate. The actual motor noise is inaudible so it's not the starter but the interaction of gears that makes the noise. You can change the pitch or the number of teeth on the flexplate (didn't acura do this in the later models?). Most cars use straight cut gears not really designed for noise reduction. You can shim the starter for proper depth of engagement which if it's wrong on your car, it can greatly reduce noise. If you have the time to get in and try different shims at different locations you can really cut down on noise.

Chad I think you talk about walking and exercising more than your car. We don't need to know your daily routine.

Have done a Spartan Race and 5 Marathons with a 20 mile straight run this year alone. And I'm 200lb and chubby.

Say what.

That's impressive. My goal is one marathon before I'm too old to do it. I've always been a muscular build and about 225lbs but when I started training for a marathon I lost so much weight it was scary. I didn't know how to train correctly, didn't have a team and didn't look it up on the internet so I ran 12-14 miles a day 6 days a week which I now know is very wrong. I ate 5,000 calories a day and after a couple months I was 189lbs. What do you have to do to maintain weight and muscle, 8,000 calories a day?

If you want to gain weight, just eat healthy carbs (rice, whole wheat, brown rice, etc). I don't know about you, but I love rice. Eat enough rice and I'm sure you will gain weight. Less on the fiber and more in protein (chicken, fish, beef, greens). If you've been eating 5,000-8,000 calories and not gaining weight, there is something wrong unless you're doing so much Cardio or Weight lifting. I don't think you swim lot like Michael Phelps, but he eats roughly 12k calories a day, but he burns close to that everyday. The more interval training you do the better. Interval usually burns only fat. Build up about 1.2-1.4g of Protein per pound of weight per day. If you want to gain weight, 1250 calories above your normal intake (check sites/BMI) per day with the foods listed above. But for your question to eat 8,000 calories a day would be 2-3 hours per day in training/weight lifting. Hour in 8 MPH Cardio or equivalent to 35 minutes doing laps in a pool. Hour lifting and 30-60 minutes of interval. 1250 calories+ to gain weight - 250 calories+ to lose weight.

I really shouldn't be able to do most of what I do, but since I was young I've been playing Basketball for my school and leagues so I'm used to doing suicides 24/7 and miles when I miss free throws. I use to weigh 260lbs and was only 5'9-5'10 back then (5'11 or 6'0 right now). I lost all the fat from Interval and weight lifting (which I didn't do enough-- weight lifting-- that I lost nearly all my muscle mass). Now I'm like 195-205 depending on the day and water weight.

OP, why do you even care? You hear the starter for what, two to three seconds at a time?

Yeah the starter is a tad noisier than average, but I don't see how this is a problem. It's not like the thing is running constantly as you're going down the road.

all the starter does is pop out and spins, which takes less then a second. in my opinion, it's not the starter that you are hearing if you can hear it from inside the car.

Wow. Whats up with all the trolling lately on Azine? I dont understand... Maybe he asked a stupid question, maybe he didn't, but there's no reason to blatantly be rude and obnoxious. I've been noticing this a lot lately on a lot of threads. OP's post questions and everyone just posts annoying and unnecessary responses. Just cause you're on the internet doesn't mean you have to be a d-bag. I doubt a lot of people would act this way face to face if Chad asked that question.

OP: I don't know anything about noisy or quiet starters; but I have noticed that replacing the battery with a fresh new one seems to cause the starter to spin a lot faster and maybe that can be interpreted as louder? Have you recently replaced the battery? Good luck either way.

Disclaimer: My post here is not directed at any one member. Just something I've noticed here on Azine lately. Everyone used to be so chill...Now some of us are acting like 16 year old civic drivers with 500 ILLEST stickers on our cars and Folger's coffee can mufflers. It really hurts the forum.

Cheers.

Chad is a troll. Read his history before commenting on the rest of us. It's the same pattern over and over. He's destroyed a lot of good threads, so people aren't going to be exactly helpful. This thread is a part of his trolling. If he keeps his usual pattern he will come back in here with some really screwed up theory about starters and how he's right because he's an EE and everyone else is dumb. People were nice to him for the first year or two until it was painfully obvious what he was doing. And for the record I would say anything I say on here to someone's face.

The starter died yesterday. I knew there was a problem with it. If something makes noise under the hood, or more noise than normal, It's telling you it doesn't feel well. You guys should remember that. Someone told me that 4 or 5 years ago. And he was right.

They wouldn't have been able to help or give any insight since the starter was working. I just knew something was wrong with it. The subject is not about "knowing how to work on a car". Thanks for your words of "wisdom" though.

well I just replaced the starter. Not only is it quieter, but it turns faster and sounds much more healthy. So I guess I do know how to work on my car.

Brian, I don't know about yours, but mine wouldnt fit in a persons ear.

try replacing your blinker fluid....when you start the car, the pump sends the fluid and this makes the noise you are hearing....i usually overfill the blinker fluid....no engine starting noise

that is actually a great idea, swoosh. i need to do another 1x3 on my blinker.

just remember, once you go synthetic you can't go back to regular fluid or it'll induce hyperflashing. no amount of resistors can cure this...i don't care how my ohm's they have.
