Quick Question: Manual Transmission Check Bolt

on the Type-S MT, does the check bolt have a spring around the threads of the bolt? Part A under number 3. Just making sure I pulled the right bolt...

TIA!

I don't pull mine when I do a drain and fill on my '04 manual since it only takes 8.7 lb/ft or torque. Some members here have wrenched the head off of this bolt. And you really don't need to remove it anyway for a drain and fill.

So as to your question, I suspect "no" with regards to a spring for this bolt. BTW, on the 3G TL's, you don't need to remove anything up top as the fill plug (bolt) can be reached without having to do this. You just need a swivel and several extensions plus a torque wrench.

Thanks.

I'm wanting to use the check bolt to make sure I fill it up with the correct amount of fluid when I drain and fill it. I had my first drain and fill done at a shop and I'm not sure if they put in the correct amount or not (to compare it to). I plan on doing it myself this time.

If you make sure your transaxle is level (use a carpenter's level), then you will drain the appropriate amount of fluid out of the case. Then just refill with the recommended amount for a drain and fill and you should be fine (I'm sure yours is probably the same as mine: 2.3 quarts, which is 2 quarts 10 ounces rounded).
