Questions on shifter boot removal/install
Questions on shifter boot removal/install
for those that have removed and/or installed a shifter boot in a 6MT, how easy is it and what's the process? In the OEM manual it just talks about removing an inserter panel and the trim ring but doesn't show how the boot is connected to the panel. do i have to remove my entire center console or can i just remove the side trims and then pull out that panel (after removing the shift knob of course)? is the boot just clipped to the center panel?
i want to switch my skunk2 knob to a new shift knob (Raceseng Slammer - Shift Knob - Translucent Finish - Acura - 6 Speed Manual , expensive but i hear great things about it and it's something i use every day) and they have a boot retainer adapter but i need to get under the boot to install it. just seeing if the knob switch is worth the effort
i know the oem boot is held onto the silver collar via a zip tie but didn't find any more details (https://acurazine.com/forums/problem.../#post13626706)
any help is appreciated!

The whole console doesn't need to come out exactly. Just push the arm rest section back and pull the sides to the side... That'll give you access to the shift/cubby piece. Checkout the short shifter DIY in the garage for those steps.
The boot at the bottom is squeezed with the silver trim piece.
I've no idea why one would use the ziptie that way. I put the zip tie on the actual metal shift arm. Just high enough up. Then pulled the shift boot top silver piece down on it. When you tighten the knob, it'll pinch the silver piece and the ziptie underneath for a nice snug fit.
Cool knob though! I wish my maven was black.
