Questions about Tint?!?!

I was wondering how hard to pass inspection with tint that may not be exactly legal?

In Texas our limit is 35% but I think 20% all the way around would look awesome.

Get your inspection done first, THEN get your tints.

Just 5%...and not that noticeable. Take a look at the film when you go to the shop.

Dunno how strict they are in TX about inspections. In VA the legal limit was IIRC 50% on the fronts and 35% on the rears. My old STI was ~20% all the way around and I never had a problem getting it through inspections.... the inspectors are usually looking more for the functionality of safety equipment. I even had my tail lights tinted on my Lexus and never had issues with inspections.

Is tint really monitored with state inspections? I had a del sol that was 10-15% darker than the legal limit on all windows (all 3!) and never was questioned.

I just got my 04 TL tinted with 35% all around and I dont suspect I will have any trouble.

oh and I live in VA

Dunno where that 25% came from. As far as I know the limit in TX is 35% for the front windows and anything goes for the rear and back glass. I would double check the validity of that site. At any rate to answer your question. I had 25% all around on my Z, and I was never hasseled by inspectors. However I was pulled over several times and given several fix it tickets from the cops. That got old fast, so I just did 35% all around on the TL, and to tell you the truth, you really cant tell that much of a difference. I'd just stay legal man, it is not worth the hassle.

If you had 25% all round you are within the law..tint can look darker depending on the color of your vehicle. If you are still questioning the validity of the site here's another which states the same 25%..

Sorry I meant 20% on my Z, and I still the dealer would only install down to 35% on the TL and said anything lower was not legal. Also the tint shop that did my Z said that 35% is the limit and below that I would not pass inspection.

Just passing on what I was told. This thread and those sites are the first I have seen 25% stated as the limit for TX.

Don't forget that most vehicles come with some tint from the factory on all the side windows (not including SUV and vans)--if a meter is used to measure than your 25 that you had installed may read 20! I got nailed that way--had the legal put on but it checked darker because of the factory tint..

What happens next year when you gotta get inspected again

Seriously though I was never hassled by the inspectors, just the cops. I still stand on just get legal tint. Is the difference in darkness really worth it? Not to mention how hard it was to see out of the Z at night with the 20%....
