Question on taking off timing belt
#41
You're all over the place.. again.
Simple stuff like removing side engine mount.
Why in the world would anyone do a timing belt job
then plan to remove it again to replace the camshaft.
Are you basing lobe damage by ticking noise?
If you actually have damaged lobes, that could be much more important to address.

The overall J series engine design hasn't changed in 20 years. All the mounting locations are the same for each Honda/Acura V6 since 98'.
So yea, it's pretty damn easy to say the least. I know your inexperienced but like I said earlier, take your time & do yourself a favour, pick up a service manual or at least sign up on Alldatadiy.com. Best 20 bucks you'll spend.

That's bad pitting, but how are you getting this picture without removing the cam? That's not typical wear at all. My guess would be defect during process or install. You either replace with timing belt job or not at all. Might as well replace and do valve job while you're in there.

Other than the pitting, the head looks good. That's a serious defect.
Even if the flake caused negligible damage, I'd report to Acura.
That should be covered IMO considering the age, miles?
If not the fight worth fighting over..
I'd pull the head off, do a full valve and cylinder inspection.
Replace cam and whatever looks worse for wear. Definitely new head gasket.

You'll have to forgive Majofo. He's still coming down off the bath salts following his naked ATV ride. Majofo, wtf were you doing in Missouri anyhow?

I don't think the head will mate.
The header of an 07 is different from an 04 TL.
Code stamp on a head is the last two digits on the engine code.
If it don't match, it's not worth the trouble of finding out.

It is a j37 series. I just bought the camshaft and I read the FSM on how to remove and install it. It is pretty straight forward. There is no need to remove the block. Just remove intake, the cylinder cover, rocker arm assembly, timing belt, camshaft pulley, batter, EGR....and slide out the camshaft. But it lots of removing parts.

Wow, I've seen cam spalling on some Honda 4-Cylinder engines; I've never seen it on one of the J-Series motors, that looks really bad. Hopefully you bought new cam followers as well.

what is a cam followers? You mean the rocker arm riding on that lobe? I just bought a a front camshaft only.
