question on retrieving item from old car

I traded in my TL about a month ago and completely forgot to remove the LC8i I had in there.
Ironically, I googled the VIN and found it being sold about 1 hr away from me.
Might be a stupid question to ask but, would it be a dumb move to show up there and ask them if i can remove the LC8i or even call them to ask if I can take it out?

you saved one of the extra keys right? Just mosey on over at 3 AM and get it out yourself!

I'd consider it gone. You can always call but my guess is they will just say "It's ours now buddy. What's it worth to you?" Looks to be a $200 item (give or take). So an hour to get there, convincing them to let you take it, if they say yes then the time to remove it and restore the audio system to functional. Then an hour back plus gas round trip? Call it 3-4 hours of your time and 4-5 gallons of gas? Just buying a new one @$200 is a bargain anyway I look at it. YMMV.

If your lucky its older people who do not care about sound or loud music they might say go at it. If its someone who likes audio they will say nope I paid for it your out of luck.

in my party days, I think I stashed some narcotics in a hiding spot in my truck. Sold the truck, but I still look for the drugs even up to this day.

Since you didn't sell the car to the new owner, they have no idea who you are. You can mosey on over there in the middle of the night and try to get it out, but that's theft and don't be surprised if you turn around and are looking at something you'd rather not be looking at. You could always try contacting the new owners, but honestly that's opening up a can of worms. Kiss it goodbye and tell yourself not to do that in the future..
