Question about Valvoline Motor Oils
A friend of mine just informed me that Valvoline will be running a major campaign beginning next week some time. Apparently if you register your vehicle on a designated site (must have less than 75,000 miles) and maintain your engine with Valvoline, they will warranty your engine to 250,000 or 300,000 miles. My question is, does this sound like a gimmick that they are gambling will not be used, or is their oil that good. I cannot wait to see details, and he wouldn’t give me any more details than that.

Over the years there have been numerous programs that will offer a warranty on the engine if particular motor oil is used. The catch is that if there is an engine failure, it must be due to lack of lubrication, or in other words, the oil is to blame. Of all the engines I've had apart there hasn't been one that the demise was because of the motor oil used. I've had engines seize because of lack of oil due to spun bearings, broken oil pump, burnt pistons, dropped valves, etc., but none of the problems could be blamed on inferior quality oil.
It's just another method of selling a product.
Here's something that is similar from Car Sense, lifetime engine guarantee using Quaker State oil:

I work for Valvoline and yes they are starting a engine guarantee. It will start June/1/2009. It is a guarantee not a Warranty! Here is the web site Valvoline as made for their engine guarantee. It has all the info you need to know about the guarantee. It even has Frequently Asked Questions. So I hope you take a look and decide for yourself. www.engineguarantee.com

Ok, so the issue that has been addressed is that this may or may not be anything more than a marketing gimmick. What I have not seen is an opinion on the quality of Valvoline oils. I got my oil changed at the dealership last week, (McGrath Acura of Westmont-they are on my banner ads all the time, so I feel like I can give them a shout out) and noticed that they used Valvoline. So, and not to be a smart-ass, the question is, what is the Zine opinion of the quality of the oil itself?
(Full Disclosure, I did go to the Valvoline site listed by Jesse and register my 06TL)

run it 7500 miles and send a sample for analysis- then you will know
The TL engine will run 200-300 no problem
Our gen2 megamod pulled his apart at 200 and the cylinder walls still had the honing marks- it was like new inside-
He always used seafoam in the oil change and intake manifold and gas
Car is still going strong with a CL-S motor and 6speed at nearly 300
It has been and still does track days and extensive driving in one day
