Question about valves

So I ran across this on a carfax and am curious about what it is:

48000 miles Intake/exhaust valves ground or replaced Cylinder head gasket(s) replaced

I may be going to look at this today shortly.

Any help is appreciated. Like someone else said it looks like a valve adjustment but why at that mileage? Also the flywheel was replaced around 60k miles, which I assume the clutch was also and it just got entered in as flywheel.

Thanks!

Aftermath of a broken timing belt, but at that mileage it's not likely, could be a spark plug that came loose and was ejected causing the threads to be destroyed, had the head replaced and valves seated, could also be the result of an over-rev condition e.g. missed shift.
As far as the flywheel and I assume it's a 6 M/T, I would also agree a clutch replacement, but once again at 48,000 miles.............

The valve thing happened at 48,000 miles and the flywheel was at 63,000. I drove a 03 lexus is300 with a slipping clutch two weeks ago and the car had 41k miles on it LOL.

Is there any way I can find out more about the repair? Would Acura have any records if I call corporate or the dealership where they had the car serviced?

if flywheel was replaced, i can guarantee the previous owner over-rev'd and blew the engine at 48000 miles.

then shortly after that, replaced clutch and flywheel

wtf I cant edit posts? Anyways, replacing the flywheel with a clutch isnt an uncommon practice is it? They either replace or resurface during a clutch and pressure plate change.

yeah, if you abuse the motherfucking car.

a properly driven clutch WILL last the life time of the car.
Sounds like the car was either ABUSED or the owner DIDNT know how to drive.
which led to the heads being replaced and the clutch and fly wheel being replaced.

Dont kid yourself.
the evidence is right in front of you.

HOWEVER, the car might have been repaired correctly, and you wouldnt even tell if it has been abused.

I know. There are next to zero 04-06 TL's with 6 speeds here around Atlanta, so I keep telling myself it wasnt.

SO it shows the Acura dealership that it was serviced at to have this work for both repairs, can I assume the work was done properly and the car is ok to buy pending a test drive and all? Or should I just stay far far away from it?

No, you cant "Assume" the work was done properly.
the only way to tell is to go LOOK at the vehicle.

you will need a Pre-purchase inspection.
you pay a mechanic to look over the car and tell you all the issues. Make sure you bring up the replacement of the heads.

without knowing if the car is broken or not, I would not BUY it.
and this is what the pre-purchase inspection does. the mechanic will tell you whats wrong with it, and you can determine as a consumer to either buy the vehicle, haggle, or leave.

Well after calling the dealership they are trying to pass the car off with lower miles than what was reported on carfax. They also told me via email the timing belt was changed, but I see no record of that on carfax and when I called they cant tell me when it was done.

On top of that they are selling it as having sh-awd in a 05.

So I am staying far far away from this one.

the only advice i can give you, is treat carfax as a tool and not a bible.

use all the tools in your belt to help you as a consumer to buy a car that is not broken.

good job passing on that car.
there will always be better deals
