When replacing 05 TL taillights with Type S taillights do you have to change the LED board?? What If I were to just buy the type S tails from curry acura....is it just a simple swap....or is there more to it??

From what I've read, yes, it is a simple swap. Drop your rear bumper. Look in the 3G garage for step by step instructions.

 

Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I just cracked my rear tail light and was thinking of doing an upgrade. Do you think getting type-s taillights off ebay are safe? Will the seals hold up and I won't get any fog or water in them?

what is the price difference between thoes and the oem ones....for all we know, thoes are made by the same company that made the oem ones....they look good, and if the price is that much better, then i would try them....

 

You need to take the LED board out of the stock light and put it into the TLS light (very easy, just 4 screws). From what I've heard/seen, regardless of where you buy the TLS lights, they won't come with the LED board so you will need to put the LED board already in your stock light into the TLS light. And after that it is just a simple swap - unplug the adapter of the stockies and plug in the TLS adapter. Of course, you first will need to remove your rear bumper first because there are bolts beneath the taillights that are hidden under the bumper that you will need to remove. Oh and one more IMPORTANT thing I forgot: there is a little foam pad that sits in the edges of the stock light, make sure you also take this out and put into the edge of the new TLS light because this prevents water seeping through. Someone forgot to do this and there was condensation all inside his lights, not to mention the fact that it would be bad for the bulbs lol

Overall it is an easy process which shouldn't take much time.

I wouldn't buy them from a dealership because you will probably pay too much. You can get the TLS tails for $218.22 from Hondacuraworld.com and they are stock/OEM <- ask anyone including myself, a very trusted vendor here.

As far as the ones on Ebay, I've heard from some people that they are great and I've heard from others that they don't fit snug, which is probably why they sell a little cheaper.

The taillights that I bought from Tim at HondaAcuraWorld.com came with the LED boards, so I didn't have to switch them out. Same deal if you buy them from a dealership..just take off the bumper, remove some screws and replace. Check the 3G garage for detailed instructions.

And regarding the Ebay lights, they are hit or miss. They're about $50 cheaper than the OEM versions, but you don't really know what you are getting.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but my question fit here. I did some searching but couldn't find a definite answer. Are the Type-S taillights a direct swap onto a base 07-08 model? I've been getting mixed answers on whether you have to change out the LED board as well. Some say that the 04-06 base model and 07-08 Type-S have white LED's as opposed to the red LED's in the 07-08 base. Others say that the LED's are red in all of the models. Can anybody confirm this beyond all doubt for me?

 

To be honest i would go with OEM because i bought a pair of aftermarket Type-s ones and had to return them because the plastic felt so cheap and thin. like if a good enough hit and they would of craked unlike OEM.

The aftermarket ones that i bought were betwen $140- $150
