Quatar word is that you got teh dearler to install the MDX back up camera
I have tons of interest in this and would get around haveing to buy that tuner box
Can you provide us w/ additional info?

Same little black camera mounted on top of license plate?

Moreace,
The camera is exactly like the one in the MDX (Actually its the MDXs) and it goes on top of the license plate.
A
The view is exactly like the MDXs, maybe except for the covering space, but other than that, it's all great.
I don't have it in my car yet, but my friend has one in his Lexus GS, and he went and chose the MDX, because as he claims, its better than the FX45 and RX330.
Since my friend had a Lexus, the dealer didn't instal it, and he did it at another friends store, but as my dealer told me, they can do it for my and it'll be covered under the vehicles warrenty and I'll be charged about $1200 - $1560.
For a sedan, I don't believe that its worth it, and I'll see if I'll jusr go with the parking assistant, not because of the price, but because of the liability (I don't wanna realy on anything like that).
The dealer told me that the camera will activate in reverse only, but my friends got a switch that can activate the camera even when moving foraward.
If you wanna wait and see how it'll look in my car, you can, and if you did yours first, please let me know.

P.S:
Put in mind that only my dealer offered that, and others didn't, check with your dealer and please let me know.

Try avelectronics.com for the tuner unit and santeca.com for a camera. I have the system in my MDX and it works great. Had it installed at a local Best Buy. I don't believe dealers install it. I have the camera mounted inside the back hatch on the MDX just under the third brake light. It works in that position because that's the back end of the vehicle. Some people drilled holes and put the camera lens peaking out around the license plate; some mounted it under the bumper (outside the car) which might not be secure. I didn't want to drill a hole. I don't imagine a camera will give a good (downward looking) view in the back window of the TL and might not work with all the other stuff in the vicinity like XM satellite antenna, nav receiver, tinted rear window, etc.

How does the dealer hook it up thoughm do u need a unit or do they just plug it in the back of teh DVD unit in the trunk? Prob get the MDX camera cheaper online and then have my friend wire it where the dealer would charge a fortune. Would I need the avelectronics unit if I want the camera only and no other features?

moreace, I wish I could give you a definitive answer on whether you need the tuner unit to run the camera only. I think it can be wired directly into the nav unit and the reverse (backup lights) electronic sytem. I use the tuner to send DVD, TV and rear camera signals to the flip down monitor and the nav screen. I do remember a lot of discussion on the MDX forum about RGB inputs/conversions and such. I love the whole system and I am sorely tempted to put it in my TSX but the fit is tight for the backseat guys in that car, I think. But the TL would take that sucker easy.
Aren't you on the TSX forum?? Do you own one? I'm seriously looking at adding the TL to the fleet.
