Quad Exhaust Tip Feeler
#241
oh man, i was at safeway earlier this week. i came outside to find a white TL next to mine fully decked out with the A-spec kit. looked really nice. I decide to wait a little bit to see who owned it and to my surprise...an old lady comes out of the store and hops in. point being, i need these tips ASAP to try to make my TL as different from the crowd as i possibly can!

I've made the same time zone mistake before

Got them fitted on but they are still not close enough to how I want them to look, as a whole.
It's back to the drawing board again. The tip design is perfect, and goes perfectly with the TL's back, but the technical "connection" parts are still not on par.
I really don't think it would be good to post any pictures at this point because I don't want this project to be rushed.

Good to know you are dedicated to having them exactly as you want. I can't wait for the finished product. Good luck with the changes.

Unless the design changes radically I'm not too worried about the finished product. As long as it isn't too wide or sticks out at weird angles I'm in. I'll have to mess around with it on my own car anyway since I've drastically altered the positioning of the mufflers due to the tips I have on my car now.

For those who don't know or haven't taken a closer look underneath the rear of their TL .. the stock exhaust outlets curve up and out to appropriate position the stock "square" tips. To go and buy aftermarket exhaust tips is pretty useless b/c the weird curve of these outlets would leave you with an misaligned, poorly/weirdly angled exhaust tip.
It is IMPERATIVE that his final, manufactered tip bolts well to the curved outlet so that the tip is well-positioned with the bumper cutouts.

^ - While true, most people who buy tips (even fitted) need to have some fine tuning done, especially with the tolerances the TL bumper gives. I spent an hour aligning the tips I put on my car - and I imagine I'll spend at least an hour aligning these (though I do have aftermarket mufflers).

just some boring magnaflows.....not too special. would have rather stuck with the oem tips but one fell off before i was sure i wanted them on permanently so i only welded about an inch on each side.

I can't wait to see these on the car. The quads are about the only thing I like on the type s, it will be nice to bring that look to my 06 NAV MT. Count me in if all goes smooth with final adjustments, so far they look sick.

Tips are looking sweet, keep up the good work. I really never liked the stock tips - especially when looking straight from the rear ...those small diameter holes look terrible.
Anywho, my concern is with the cleaning and discoloration over time of the "side-by-side staggered" design. The longer pipe is going to get dirty. If the materials are quality then they should clean ok, but cheaper stuff will pit and or turn over time. Any thoughts?

You will have to cut the OEM tips off and weld these on. No flange after the muffler.
