Purolator Synthetic Filters...Anyone seen one? Price?
So according to Purolator they have a synthetic filter and it is allegedly available at either Advance or Autozone. I have checked local stores and even called them and "Purolator" states that its available, I just forget which chain. Been to both and nothing
Nothing online from my searches. Has anyone put hands on one of these? Just curious if so where, and how are they priced?
The part numbers for the 3g TL are PSL14610 for the standard and PSL 14459 for the larger/S2000 that also fits the 3G.
Not trying to make this into a best oil/filter/how often/mid/3000k or what thread, just trying to see if anyone here has actually purchased one.
Just in case i did search!
Thanks

Purolator is excited to bring you the next level of filtration from the inventors of the oil filter — Purolator Synthetic. Purolator Synthetic oil filters were designed specifically for synthetic oil users. This high premium filter provides you with the longest lasting engine protection within the Purolator line.
What's different about Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters?
Let's start with the media. The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is wire-backed. That means there's a wire-mesh that provides extra support to the media so that it remains intact and durable. It's also 100% synthetic so it's designed to work best with synthetic oils. The media in Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters is also 99%* efficient which means it removes 99% of all the dirt and junk that gets into your oil. 99%! AND, it's designed to trap and hold up to 27 grams* of that dirt and junk that could get into your engine and cause major repairs. So what does all this mean? Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters are a long-lasting filter, providing engine protection for 10,000 miles.
Synthetic, wire-backed media + 99% efficiency + 27 grams capacity = 10,000 mile protection
No Slip Grip
Purolator Synthetic Oil Filters feature a no slip grip control texture that covers the entire can, making the filter installation and removal easier!
There's more!
Here's a peek inside the Purolator Synthetic Oil Filter and all it has to offer:
*Based on ISO 4548-12 at 25 microns on PSL30001

Thanks Gideon, Seems like I just checked the other day or so. At least that helps with the price. Hmmm $12 is in the RP range. MIght just stick with the PureOne's then.

Looks like a pretty good filter though, especially since I prefer Purolators and have a 10K mile OCI (using synthetic), also it doesn't hurt that I can get 'em with an employee discount...Thanks for sharing!

Advanced
I was talking with "Mike" at advance auto last night and he said pureOne is the best filter out there especially people who change there oil every 10k+, and to stay away from Fram which are junk, but any filter would be just fine running around 5-6k oil change intervals.

I've used the PureOne for the last 6 oil changes (my MID interval is about 7500-8000 and I did one at 10K with M1 0W40). Really happy with it, low silicon values in the 2 UOA's I've run. I bought 6 from Amazon on a deal that made the price about $5 each, but that source on Amazon has been out of stock for over a year now. (I made the purchase about 3 years ago). There was a $3 rebate available from Purolator last year, but it ended in Oct I think.

I too purchased a bunch of the PureOne filters from Amazon. Just as a FYI - you can use the 14459 instead of the 14610. I prefer the wide stubby filter to the tall narrow one.

Advance is selling these online for $5 each. Combine it with code A123 and you get $10 off of $30 or $20 off of $50. I ended up buying 6 filters for $20 and just picked them up at the store.

I just put one of these on the Murano when they were out of RP filters. The newish synthetic media used in a handful of the high end filters is really great stuff. Better flow and better filtration. With a traditional cellulose media you could only have one or the other. I would still want to see beta ratios to have hard data on how well they filter. There are several different synthetic medias out there. I believe they're licensed by Donaldson to these oil filter manufacturers or at least they used to be.
Couple the synthetic media to a filter that includes reliability and longevity features like metal end caps, wire backing, a silicone anti drain back valve, an O-ring gasket, and a thicker cannister and you've got a winner.
I just saw the specs and I'm pretty sure the RP filters better, these are more in line with the Amsoil EAO filters if I remember right which are great but I need to look it up to be sure.

I hate to say it but dark oil doesn't mean dirty oil. In fact, most of the stuff the filter is capable of filtering will not change the color. Some additives just by heat cycling make the oil dark. High detergent oils will get dark quicker.
The main cause of dark oil is combustion byproducts getting past the rings which also shows the importance of a good PCV system. This is the reason we go 60,000 miles and more on a transmission fluid change. The trans does not contaminate the oil like the engine does.

Amsoil EAO: 98.7% @ 20 microns
PureOne: 99.9% @ 20 microns (13 gram capacity)
Purolator Synthetic: 99% @ 25 microns (27 gram capacity)
Didn't find any capacity data for RP or Amsoil. Maybe it's out there, but I didn't find it. Also, Amsoil's 15K/25K guarantee is only good when their filter is used in conjunction with Amsoil oil.

Thanks. I've never seen any capacity info either. I remember the EAO13 and maybe one other had issues with capacity and restricting flow well before the interval.
