Pulled the trigger...kind of

I just got back from Park Acura in Akron/Canton, OH

I just signed all the preliminary paperwork on an '08 ASM TL-S 6mt.

Here at the details of my deal:

1st off, I cannot find a 6speed in ASM / ebony interior at any of the 10 closest dealers to me. All I could find is 3 NBP, 3 KBP, 2 CBP and 1 MRP. WDP was just as rare to find. I would have gone fishing on the internet, but I have a trade-in.

With that said, My negotiating power was cut shy.

Sale Price: $36,500 vs $38940 MSRP
Trade-in: $15000 '04 Acura TL 6mt NBP 52000 w/ cracked front windshield
Tax: $1650
Fees: $280ish
Add'l money down: $600
Rate: 2.9%
Term: 60 mos
Monthly Payment: $410.00

I will have an idea on Monday how long I will have to wait. I would have been able to get an AUTO for $35000. But I drove one and just can't do it. No offense to all you AUTO owners, but I NEED THE CONTROL.

My Sales guy was Thomas Paddock. Nice 30ish guy. He is a car guy himself and not a scumbag that we have all seen. Knew a lot about a lot of cars. He wasn't just a salesguy. I recommend him

Guys? I would love your thoughts especially on other CLEVELAND AREA owners. Could you guys please share some of your deals. PM if you want to also.

I really feel ok with the deal, considering Thomas wasn't able to even give me a ballpark time-frame for a ASM.

Please keep your fingers crossed and hope they don't try to switch me b/c they can't find an ASM or WDP.

WOOHOO

Good Deal.

For the mid-west/central states $36,500 is not bad at all.

Sell your TL on your own....it's worth way more than $15k. Trade in value should really be closer to $16,500.

You may want to check out the internet for Acura of Columbus. I'm not sure that they have what you want, but their service is impeccable.

I weighed my options selling it on my own. I really don't want to and do not have the time to sell it on my own.

Sure, i would get more than 15000 for it. But not that much more than offsetting my Trade Tax Credit from trading it in. I'm paying $1650 in tax compared to the $2850 in tax if I didn't have a Trade Tax Credit.

One of my good friends is a car guy. He looked at his auction sheets. He said they were gonna hit me at $14000. But $15000 would be a good trade.

I am actually surprised I got this KINDA deal. I haven't seen a WDP or ASM TL-S on the road. And now that I have been looking to get a new car. 6speeds are RARE here in NE OHIO.

There are 2 Acura Dealers in Columbus. AoColumbus and Lindsay Acura. Lindsay has ZERO and AoColumbus has 4. (2 NBP and 2 KBP) I'm sorry BLACK IS SEXY, BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MORE BLACK for me. I just don't have time to wash it 3 times a week

I will post some pics when I take delivery.

Thanks guys. I just wanted to know what other NEO peeps paid.

Lookin to make the same deal (roughly) as you just have. Here in SoCal I think I might get the car for a tad less. Either way enjoy. I'm not waiting for the 4G. Based on the stuff coming out of Acura, funky grill work and possible up movement in the TL price point I think the end of the 3G TL run should be a good buy and still a decent car for the next few years.

I think you are missing the original point. The $16,500 figure isn't a Private Party value you could have gotten, it's more of what you SHOULD have gotten from the dealer. But of course, this is VERY dependant upon location so your $15K may have been a good deal there. Since you didn't, your actually paying about $1,500 more for the newer car. If you had sold this out right to an individual (i.e. sold it yourself) you would have gotten closer to $19,600 (current Kelly Blue Book private party value). So, your comparison above should really have been an analysis of the $15K they gave you vs. the $19,600 LESS taxes you could have gotten from a private individual. What really matters is that your happy with your final decision.

NOTE: I assumed you had a NAVI in these figures. The thing that probably hurt you the most on the reduced trade in value is the windshield damage. Although it doesn't cost them much to repair, they will hit you on it as though it does. One thing that EVERYONE should always do on ANY trade in would be to make the car look as good as possible (i.e. SUPER CLEAN inside and out and even possibly a full detail service).

Here are a few reasons for this. #1. If the dealer sees it in the best condition possible, it is easier for your "trade in appraiser" to give you the most money possible for it and 2) If they see that it is ALREADY prepared to be sold to another individual, they don't have to waste time and money on doing that work themselves and 3) If they realize that you can sell it your self and are READY to do so, then they also realize that they may not be selling you a car that same day UNLESS they get aggressive. To a car dealership, TODAY is all they really care about. EVERY buyer should ALWAYS use their greatest asset (of delay) to your own advantage. When the dealer ask you (and they ALWAYS do) "What can I do to get you into this car TODAY" your reply should always be "Well, I don't really have any INCENTIVE to buy a car today....or do I? What are you offering me to do this today instead of 3 weeks from now"?

If it's non-navi, $15K is right in the ballpark. KBB trade-in for non-navi in good condition is $15400.

Yes it is Non-Navi.

The inside of the car is spotless, except for the driver's floormat lol

Outside, the normal wear and tear from 3 winters here in good ol' Cleveland, OH.

I appreciate eveyone's input. I have to admit, I prolly could have sold it privately for more than $16,500. Thus being on the positive side of the Trade-in/Private sale tax credit equation. But the time and frustration with being available to show the car when I have very little free time as it is. I work in the Restaurant business. I might have lost a little bit of money, but trading it in was hassle free IMO. I really just wanted to dump it. NBP is EXHAUSTING to keep up with. I felt it was a losing battle lol

I believe I got a Fair Trade and a Good Deal on a NON EXISTENT 6mt ASM/ebony int TL-S

Any other NEO folks out there want to share their deal with me?

The last 2 times I had to wait for a car, I paid full sticker. '99 E36 M3 and '03.5 G35 6mt Brembo.
