Protection Plus Package

Hey everybody,
I'm new to the board and about the pull the trigger on an '05 TL. How many of you guys picked up the Protection Plus Package (trunk tray, mudflaps, wheel locks)? A dealer said that many dealerships have these put on all their cars and that most people want them anyways.

Bottom-line: it adds $600 to the MSRP . . is this a rip-off?

Rip-off. Some people get them free from their dealers, some people pay cost or a little more. Most of the items are good to have, but the mudflaps are a personal choice and you may not want them, in which case have them removed and don't pay for them.

Dealers also include in this rip-off paint and fabric protection, which is a waste of money, and you should not pay anything for these.

I wouldn't pay MSRP $600 -- tell 'em to throw it in to make the deal. Period. No package, no deal.

I told my dealer I didn't want the protection package. After a little back and forth I ended up getting it for free. I've since removed the mudflaps.

Protection Package

I Always Get Flaps On Any New Car I Get. I Paid About $120 For Them. The Wheel Locks Were In The Glove Box When I Took Delivery. Buy Mats At A Local Target.

There is another post on the efficacy of floor mats, but I got them, the trunk tray, and splash guards thrown in for free. And yes, the paint and fabric protection stuff is "smoke and mirrors". Many dealers are slick at selling these things.

$600? Rip-off! - I was given the wheel locks, and asked for them to be replaced with standard lug nuts (I hate the look of the locks). The mud gurads are unnecessary in a car with enclosed wheel wells, so I passed on those too. Trunk tray I bought wholesale on the 'Net.

Thanks for the info. I just called the dealer and said, "thanks, but no thanks."

I got a set for 20 bucks and there were by Rubbermaid. Matched and fitted the car perfectly. Even the dealer asked me "hey these are nice mats, where did you get them".

Whatever you do do not pay $600 for those three items. Thats actually more than list.

1.) Mud Flaps $190
2.) Trunk Tray $107
3.) Wheel Locks $60.00

Total $357.

Tell him to give all to you at no charge or only offer $175 thats a fair price I've seen.

Negotiate price without the Pack. Then once you get the price tell them to throw them in for free to close the deal.... any dealership that won't do that is not worth dealing with.

I got mine for free. Its a rip off.

the only thing extra I paid for was rim protection. I didn't really want it, but after messing up the bullit rim on my Mustang a few years back, and considering the Acura factory rims are well over $500 each, I was easily convinced

I remember my dealer tried to sell the package to me for $895. Idiots.

I ended up getting it free.
