Problems in the first month
Problems in the first month
I got my TL about 5 weeks ago and I've already had issues. First they were having trouble installing my back-up sensors. When I went to pick up my car I realized the bumper wasn't one as tight as it should be so I went back in. Later that day it was done. On my way home i noticed a small scratch on the silver panel next to the Navi unit. I didn't feel like dealing with it so I let that slide.
Then I had a title issue. The day my temp plates expired I went to the dealership to see what happened to my plates. They said they had no record of my title so I spoke to the sales manager that sold me the car. He found out that their dealership was the 3rd one the car had been too and the title wasn't properly tranfered when it left the 1st one. So 3 weeks went by and I decided to call....they said my plates have been ready for a few days even though I was told I would get a phone call to pick them up when they come in.
While my plates weren't on, I wanted to take the front holder off and noticed they had drilled a hole into my bumper for a 3rd screw. My brother told me not to worry since i need the front plate anyway so I didn't say anything.
My last issue came today. While I was cleaning my car I realized the silver panel that was scratched is now starting to come off. In 2 places its beginning to peal off.
I've spent the past couple days trying to get in touch with the sale manager and left him messages. So tomorrow i'm going to go there after work and get everything fixed.
Has anyone else had these kind of issues in the first few weeks?
For those is Northern NJ, try to avoid Open Road Acura in Wayne.

Sorry to hear about that, it's really unfortunate. You should've made it an issue immediately after you found the scratch. Since I've joined the boards about a month ago, I've heard more than a fair share of dealerships everyone should avoid. Is there a list we can put together of all the dealerships people have had problems with? On the flipside, another list of dealerships people have had good experiences with.

And they drilled another hole in the bumper to attach the front license plate??
Aah yes, Acura must have forgotten to put the correct number of holes in the front bumper for 3 straight model years. We'll just slap another on here...
Frickin idiots.

I'd take the car to Montclair Acura, if I were you. SHouldn't matter where you bought it. I had the musiclink installed, a couple of days after getting the car I noticed a small mark on the black plastic of the console, like someone used a screwdriver to pry off the silver trim and didn't cushion it. I wasn't going to say anything about it till I put some 303 on the interior and realized that there were two marks and some scuffing on the piece, then I noticed that the silver trim had a gap in the way it fit. I brought the car in (made an appt), they took a look at it and said OK, they needed to order some parts. I brought the car in last week and they replaced the entire front console, the two side pieces, the front structure and the two silver pieces. It now fits perfect.

sorry to hear that.
i just got my tl as well and had a few problems my suggestion is meet the service manager and become his friend or parts manager take them out for a drink sometime. you shouldnt have many problems getting those things fixed under warrenty.
Acura of Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida- Good experience every time I took my car for service that is also where we purchase our car from good sales people but avoid the Internet sales representative.
Duval Acura in Jacksonville Florida- Ok service department had a very bad experience with one service clerk on one occasion, not to worry about him though he was fired after handling us.

I'm sorry you had problems with your TL so early. From what I see, the dealer caused the problems, so find another dealer to get your car serviced in the future. I've had my '04 TL for several years without a single warranty issue. It's a great car, so I hope you have the same luck with your new car as I've had with mine. Good Luck!

I refused to pay so they're huffing and puffing now. I was just curious as to what service clerks you dealt with. The assistant manager, Shannon or whatever his name is is about to really hear it from me. And yeah, if were you I'd try Orange Park Acura. They're much better.
My husband had an accident not even a bad one at that he hit a curb hard the only thing that was done was the replacements of two rims, two tires, and an alignment and they claim that the front bumper underneath needed to be repainted. It didn't look like it needed to be repainted to us and we even took pictures of it and no paint was missing at all. They suppossly sent it to a body shop to get it painted and gave us a bootleg receipt from the body shop. We don’t think that they sent it in to the body shop at all because from what we saw it didn’t need to be repainted. They had or car for over two weeks without a loaner and they ripped off our insurance company just for those minor repairs they charged our insurance company $5,000.00. I would not even be concerned with how much they ripped off our insurance company but for the fact that our insurance increased like $600.00 a hundred dollars extra a month for the six month policy. I just think that they are very shady there and I think that they are always trying to get over on people. After that day we never took our car back there for anything. We only was going there because it was close to where we used to live, we lived off of Mayport Road. Acura of Orange Park was like 45 minutes away but after that we just didn't even worry about those 45 minutes because it was well worth the ride to not get ripped off and to have sucking service. Since we didn’t take the car to where the Insurance company recommended us to take it our rental car didn’t last but for a week so for a whole week we didn’t have a rental car and we didn’t have our car or a loaner. I called every day to get a status on the car, I mean every day for the two weeks and day that they had the car and ever day I get it is being worked on. It was taking them so long to do those minor repairs so the insurance company even called to see what was going on and why it was taking so long and our service guy told the insurance guy that our car sat at the shop a whole day with out being touch because the technician that was fixing it was sick. But mind you I had call that very same day and I got oh it being worked on and that we would have it tomorrow. The tomorrows turned into a whole week. Then when the car was finally finished being fixed the insurance company had not sent over the check because at first it was only supposed to be like $2500.00 which I thought was still way to much but then they increased the amount to $5,000.00 so and agent had to come back out to see why they need more money. So the car was ready but they hadn’t got paid yet so the insurance guy told me to tell them to give me this form (forgot what the form was called). The form was saying that the check could be written directly to Duval Acura instead of me and my husband so they didn’t have to deal with us any more but the service guy didn’t even tell us about that form and they were refusing to release our car until they got their check. Mind you that the insurance guy had already talked to the service guy and told him about that form but the service guy failed to tell us that, trying to bargain us saying well that they could not release our car until they got their check. I called the insurance guy and told him that they were refusing to release our car because they were not paid yet, the insurance guy told me about that form so I asked for the form filled out the form then they gave us or car. Shady I shall say. The next week a representative call to see how the service was I told her all of this and he was fired. This happened last year though not this year so just maybe their service department has improved a little but I seriously doubt that though.

I wish i had title issues. Shit, my car with 2000 miles needed a new clutch, fly wheel, and throw out baring. A new thrid brake light cover, and a week in the shop to stop all the damn rattles. Not to turn this into a bitch session, but just trash the dealer on the survey. I work in the auto industry, CSI (customer service index) is almost as important as the bottom line on the ledger. Sometimes more.. Bad CSI can cripple a dealership, it can short them allocation (inventory), bonuses, spiffs... You get the point. I recomend everywith problems like this calling the market area service/parts rep and get them involved. They work for Acura/Honda, not the dealers.
