Probably said before, but check your Side/Front Engine Mounts!

I had random popping sounds when I took off from a stop, replaced my Side Engine Mount and the noise went away.

Now I know that our trannies do engine brake (especially on the Type S) and you can feel it downshift harshly just as if you were dumping the clutch from 3rd to 2nd driving stick, but recently I've had HARSH downshifts. Had my mechanic check my front engine mount and what do you know it was leaking and cracked at the bottom.

Replaced my front mount, and the car drives like new again. All rattling/popping sounds are gone I can still feel the tranny downshift (I have a TL-S), but not as harsh as before and I don't buck forward in my seat from 3rd to 2nd when coming to a stop.

Also, fixed some rasp from my exhaust when under load, which if you think about it theoretically, it makes sense.

Guys, CHECK YOUR MOUNTS! Side engine mount is most prone to failure, but front mount as well, if you've been riding on a broken side mount, more pressure on other mounts.

I replaced with OEM mounts. Was thinking about XLR8 75A for side and front, and OEM rear, so the whole car doesn't shake while I'm idling, but we'll see.

Anyway, just wanted to give you my experience.

I have a base 6 speed, and I also heard a noise when accelerating from a stop, although I think of it as more of a "knock" would you say that you could describe your popping as a knock? Last time I was at my specialist I thought he said my engine mounts were fine, but maybe I'm just imagining that conversation..
