Price for Repair - yay or nay?

Hey all, how goes it?
So I'm finally getting around to fixing my car...
The bumper, the rear spoiler (aspec) and a dinged up fender (T-boned, but very SLIGHTLY - there was no paint damage).

I brought it, today, to a guy whos known to be very "good". He called me up with a price of roughly 1k in labor ONLY. parts, I said I would provide...
Doesn't $1,000 for labor seem a bit steep?!?!?! I was expecting a couple hundred dollars...as in maybe $300-$400! Repainting the new bumper, labor of taking it on and off, putting the aspec rear spoiler on...and banging out the fender (plus painting) = $1000?!

Yay? Nay? Am I...being cheap?

Thanks,
Eric

Why not get a few more estimates from good repair places? You could do the labor yourself and save the $1000.

It cost me $900 to have the front bumper and fender painted on WDP. There was a rub mark on the fender and bumper cover from a car that got a little too close. Takes time to get a perfect match and alot of tests before application.

That doesn't sounds too bad. The painting can be expensive. Like was mention, I'd get a couple of more estimates.

That seems reasonable. If the guy is "good," then expect to pay more to have it done right the first time. Yes, you could probably save a few $'s with someone else, but would the job be completed with the same quality?

It all depends on what the guy is doing.. When you say you'll buy the parts do you mean: NEW bumper, fender & rear spoiler???

Because that is a bit pricey just to paint and install. Even if the shop is going to pound out and bondo your fender and seal your bumper damage that sounds excessive.

I did body work on my '01 Tundra V8 limited. I bought the truck from a girl who ran the truck into some trees down a hill [engaged drive instead of reverse while backing out.. according to her].. bumper / grill / fender (badly damaged) / turn signal lamp. I had some fender molding tools and I was able to redo the fender (hammer, bondo & paint), installed new bumper, turn signal, grill, push out steel splash guard in about 5 hours total from start to finish including 8 new plugs.

So if the market rate for labor is ~$100 / hr.. then this guy wants to charge 10 hrs work.. albeit the paint matching may be tricky depending on who you ask, that is still a lot of hours to charge for quality work. If I can do body work, paint, plugs and install new parts in 5 hrs, imagine the time it would take to just paint and install. I would shop around.. and if you're buying all new parts then find a good paint shop and get the fender / bumper? painted seperately, that way you cut any margin a body shop would charge.

The going rate to paint a bumper is about $450 to $500 for a good job. That is with a lip on there or without. When they're spraying the entire bumper they aren't going to charge extra for that.

The fox the ding, sand and paint that area and blend is usually another $300 probably at most. So... your quote is not off by that much. Just shop around. Or I have a better suggestions.. just trade it in for that TYPE S. That's what I would do if I had a ding.
