Prevent AC from turning on automatically with climate control

Is there there any way to prevent the AC from turning on when enabling auto climate control? I have the '06 auto NAV (non-working).

I find it annoying that AC cycles on when all I want is to heat or defog my windows.

To defog you want the AC on - it dries out the air. For heat you don't need to have the AC on but it doesn't really hurt.

You need the AC to be on to defog your windows. Fog builds up inside the glass due to moisture in the air. AC removes moisture from the air. You can't defog your windows with the AC off..

Step #1 - Push AUTO
Step #2 - Set desired temp
Step #3 - Push A/C

Now it runs full AUTO without the A/C compressor cycling. Expect your windows to fog like a mofo though the longer you are in the car. I only turn off the A/C when it is for sure dry out....or just barely cool enough to justify some heat. The colder it is and the more people you have in the car, the more moisture is in the air and fogs up the windows.

Yes you can. I did it frequently with my '04 TL. The only time I let the A/C operate when directing air to the windshield was when the outside temp was relatively warm and humid during a rain. The trick is to regular the inside temperature so that fog does not develop in the interior sides of the windows. I did this quite often.
