Power steering replacement
Power steering replacement
New user/owner here. chalk up another leaking PSP for a 3g tl. mechanic wants $400 parts/labor for new pump, flush, and fluid.
I can get the same cardone 21-5441 pump for $68 from advance auto that they want $256 for. so needless to say me and a co-worker will be attempting this on our own.
I see there is a great link for a rebuild but it doesn't go into depth about how to take it off and what to do with the pulley/belt system. can someone maybe point me to an up to date step by step on how to replace it?

Purchase two new "o" rings if they aren't with the unit and I believe the pulley nut is reversed threads.
Move the drive belt tensioner to loosen the belt and remove from pump.
Rock Auto has the pump for $61.79 + shipping, use 5% discount code.

this vid is a how to for 7th gen accord psp replacement BUT its exactly the same procedure and steps as our TL.. its probably the best how to vid out there in terms of quality and content, I know cause I spent hours looking a DIY for the TLs but this is as good as it gets... its also a very easy procedure.. probably shouldnt take more than 90min for the 1st time.. hardest part is releasing the belt using the tension bolt, requires a little muscle but other than that the rest is removing a few bolts and clamps

Honestly, buy all the seals and replace them yourself on the existing pump.
I think it cost me around 20-25 bucks purchasing all the oem seals.
If youre inclined to do this. Its a bit discouraging when you look at it but once you have it out. It's pretty simple to figure out what goes where etc.

Usually it's the housing seal that causes the leaks on the pumps. I just rebuilt mine and didn't bother with the removing the pulley to replace that seal. replaced the other 4 and it is bone dry. I would rather rebuild than replacing with a reman pump. It's really easy honestly.
Just be careful when reassembling the pump to put the all the vanes back in the right way. They don't look it but are directional. I didn't pay much attention the first time and ended up with no power steering and a nasty whine. Had to take it all apart and do it again and success!

this is quite easy to preform. Yesterday I picked up my TL from the mechanic so, when I had originally dropped the car off to have the belts replaced I had forgot to drop off the power steering pump I was replacing the old one with. Anyways when I went to pick up the car I brand the pump and the mechanic installed it for me in front of me boy was it quick job about 15 mins he did it while chatting with me and my brother was simple and easy.
There are a lot of tutorials online / videos on how to change out a power steering pump normally all hondas are a like so any video online basically about power steering pump on any honda motor its pretty straight forward and the same for all power steering pump changes on honda engines. You just need to make sure you bleed the system correctly and get all air out of the lines.
