power steering fluid replacement
power steering fluid replacement
I can't find anywhere in the documentation on how often to repalce the power steering fluid on 06 TL. does anyone have any reference when we should do it?
thank you
thank you
The problem is, the owner manual does not say anything for power steering fluid, and the power steering service is not part of any code for the maintenance minder.
As far as the break fluid, the manual says every 3 years that is independent of any service or Maintenance Minder.

ok- the reality of brake fluid is that its hygroscopic and sucks moisture from the air- which gets compressed and pushed thru the ABS controller ($700 part) to the calipers where it turns to micro rust particles
Now along comes the time to do the brakes and you push the highly extended piston back in--stirring up the rusty crud and tearing the piston o-ring = caliper failure
Rebuild or replace
Or change the brake fluid every year and always have the best brake pressure effort to the calipers. Spongy pedal is usually old fluid
What the book says and real life are different- keep the TL in top shape
change the plugs at 60-70 not 100..
Have you had the gen3 recall for ps hose done? if not- add a fluid change to it for cheap- the recall hose and install is free
see gen2 for diy on ps flush -basically get a 5 foot length of garden hose that will fit over the lower hose on the ps res- undo that hose and hose clamp them together
Per Acura- start car- turn wheels left and right fully until fluid gone from res and rack
Add new fluid- turn wheels back and forth to bleed out air bubbles
If you want - repeat so its all clean fluid plus a wash thru of the first batch
from me:
put cardboard under front wheels to make turning them easy
Dont worry- acura says to do it this way- you are not driving without fluid- its only empty a few seconds at idle speed- wont hurt the car or pump
Use only Honda PS fluid from honda dealer, or specialty type import car parts store carries the honda brand stuff too
The TL like honda fluids in certain places- this is one
Brake fluid- any name brand dot4 spec regular or synthetic is fine

do I need to say:
Put the other end of the hose in a 1 gallon plastic catch can
take the old fluid to the parts store or local garage- they accept it for free
using a larger diameter hose outside the ps hose keeps it from blowing out so easily-throwing fluid everywhere
gen2 manual does it backwards,, but rob_2 found out the hard way to use a larger hose outside instead and let the rest of use know
He wrote the diy if you search his name

thank you for all the info, I am going to just tack on the break fluid change the power steering fluid and keep it at the same interval to make it more simpler to remember as on when to do it
I am guessing you are young and refuse to understand the complexities of the modern brake system and brake fluid...seriously- wiki hygroscopic
Acura says start at year 3 and then every year forever on the brake fluid
It is vital to protecting the very expensive ABS controller and the calipers, in addition to making for better braking...
but what do 4 decades of working on street cars-race cars-airplanes etc give me any specific understanding far beyond the average person~
You want to treat the car poorly thats your business
