Possible trade up...

Gang,

I'm looking into doing a trade for my 2005 3rd Gen TL with tech package and 84,500 miles for a 2008 3rd Gen TL. My current car needs a windshield, new tires in the next 6 months and has a braking issue. The delaership has offered $9500 for my car and I have requested a year worth of XM to be added.

The newer TL has 64k miles, no tech pakage, has a warranty left and is priced at $18,900.

Talk to me!

$18,900 seems a little high IMO.

So you're thinking of going from NAV to NON-NAV?

A key to trading your car in is getting free XM for a year? You know that all you have to do is call them up when its about to expire and say you know someone who go 5 months for $25. Ends up being ~$80 for the whole year...I'd just ask for the extra money then you can spend it however you want.

The XM is only about $100 upgrade (i get offers from them every few months for this).

I got my 2008 Base with Nav and approx 37K miles for $21.5K about 1.5 years ago.

I'd suggest talking them down a little. Here are the NADA values
(southwestern region - add $1325 retail if it's certified):

Rough Trade-In --- $13,725
Average Trade-In --$15,250
Clean Trade-In -----$16,500
Clean Loan ----------$14,875
Clean Retail ---------$19,475

Auction Values Date Range: 10/29/2012 - 11/4/2012
Low Auction -------$11,756
Average Auction --$14,706
High Auction ------$17,681

The free XM was just that fact that I have life time XM in my current TL. My current car has an interest rate of 3.99% but my bank offers a better interest rate 2.5% for newer cars.

It was a chance to get a fresh, newer TL...

Your extending your payments though. It's nice to not have car payments/owe people money.

Take it how you want but it's relevant and true. Why would you give up nav and lifetime xm for the exact same car minus a few miles and technology and extend hat you owe even more? Why don't you finish paying your car and then really upgrade to a new body style or different car while still keeping your TL?
