Is it in poor taste of the dealer to...

not specify which spoiler they're going to install. They had called yesterday and spoke to my mom and told us they would give us a spoiler/pinstripes for free and to choose because they were "prepping" the car for pickup soon. My mom had said no to the pinstripes and yes to the spoiler (which is what i wanted). They didnt specify which spoiler, I wanted the deck lid as i think the rear wing looks hideously out of place without the entire a-spec body kit. I called today to ask them which one they were installing and they had said the rear wing . I asked them if they could change it and sales rep said she would call back in a few minutes to see if they had already installed it as if they had they couldnt change it because of the holes in the trunk. She called back with the news that "if i had called 5 minutes later i would have been stuck with the rear wing and they're putting the deck lid on" . My question is (apart from the fact that my mom didnt ask) is it poor taste for the dealer to assume that since im young I want the most aggresive looking thing they can put on?

Now dont get me wrong, Im very appreciative of the dealer throwing in the extras for free, but should they have specified which spoiler?

Sorry if Im being anal.

Dear Anal,

Yes.

Also, It's free and my guess is that they would have thrown in the cheapest of the 2.

Not much you can say since it's free, but they could've asked (it would've been nice). Of course your mom could've, too.

Funny thing is, the deck lid costs LESS than the wing...I would've guessed that was the one they were going to give you.

You should have realized that pinstripes are hideous and not the rear wing spoiler.

i've always preferred lip spoilers over wing spoilers, but in the case of the TL, i'm beginning to like the wing spoiler more... dunno why, but i think it goes with the car

Is it in poor taste to look a gift horse in the mouth?

In my book, it sure is...but I don't know the specifics of exactly why they are giving you a free spoiler.

I don't know that I would call it "poor taste". It sounds like it was probably an honest mistake on the part of your sales rep for forgetting to ask or thinking that you said wing at one time. I'm sure your mom probably didn't know that there were two types of spoilers and she just said yes because you indicated that you wanted one. I'd chalk this up to a miscommunication all around and move on. Luckily you were in time to get what you wanted and this is a good lesson in making sure you ask every possible question beforehand.

If they said spoiler then make them get the spoiler. If they said a wing then it should be a wing. If it messes up the car to install one or the other then they should have asked you. The wing will likely have a negative affect your rearward visibility which is bad to begin with.
Too bad they can't just swap out the trunk lid because every major body part now has a VIN number on it. Nothing is free. Don't fall into that trap. You paid a hell of a price to get the car so tell them to get the one you want and be firm about it. It's all about customer satisfaction.

Most folks here don't like the pinstripes but I think they are okay so lets see a pic when you get the car.

They're actually both spoilers. One is the decklid spoiler, and the other wing spoiler.
