I generally have pretty good FM reception in my 04. However, the reception gets bad after turning the rear window defroster on (bad enough that you don't want to listen to it). Turn it off and the reception gets good again. No problem with XM reception. Anybody else notice this?

 

We own a 2004 also and just started noticing a deterioration of the FM Signal with the rear defrost on. I thought I might have ***ked it up while I was playing contortionist trying to clean the inside of the back window, and yes, I did remove the rear head restraints before cleaning.

By any chance do you have tint on your back window? Specifically metallic tint? When I tinted the rear window of my BMW, the radio reception sucked when the defroster was on but worked great when the defroster was off.

 

I'm experiencing the same thing on my 2006 (no tint).

 

i have tint- not metallic and have no problems with reception. mine is an 05.

 

Not sure. I only listen to satellite radio now.

 

I don't know why you guys are experiencing those problems... All my cars have metallic tint (including our TL), and both the radio (AM and FM) and navi work just fine regardless if the defrosters are on, in all of my cars.

 

No tint on mine. I tried it again today and had no reception problems, although there was no frost on the glass as there was when the reception got bad. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I will keep experimenting with it.
