Plasti-Dip Painted Grill

sorry to resurrect this thread but has anyone painted the gray accents on the a-spec lip with this? I want it to match the grill (which is holding up awesome, not a single chip or anything like that), but I am scared of doing the back. Would the exhaust burn it off after a while of driving? I don't want it to be melting off and shit. Any input on this?

I tried this last year with my parents Lexus to paint the emblems black. The plasti dip clumped up after it dried and it was a PITA to get it off. I got most of it off but still some rubber pieces remain in between the letters.
I gave it a go again a few weeks ago on my other car and it sprayed out like liquid. I think maybe its because the garage was cold?
I will give this a try for the TL for the grille. How far away from the grille should I spray it? How many coats?
And stvtec how did you mount your plate?

Did you use plastic dip for your tl after you painted your hood black?

Either way you can do it by taping it off or removing your grill....I will be doing this in the next week or two.

I was thinking about plastidip-ing the whole grill and silver around it. has anyone done the strip on the bottom and on the front of the hood? I wonder how it would hold up in the rain and car washes.. and I guess then I would just black out the A too.. hmm
what do you guys think?
(I hate the rims too btw.. came on the car when I bought it)

I did everything except the "A". It holds up for about 3-4 months at a time if you want it to look perfect all the time. I think after it chips next time I'm just gonna do the vinyl route or have it professionally painted. BTW, I did not paint the mesh as well.

damn, looks pretty clean! How many coats did you use? did you just mask off the area without removing anything? I wonder what it would look like if you also painted the A.. hmmmmmmmm. because I want to paint the rear A and strip above the license plate.

I took the bumper off and took the grille apart. I did several light coats at first and then just went to town on it. You can't screw this stuff up. If you dont want chipping you can find a matte clear coat and use that Ive heard. I also did my rear A.

where can I find a matte clear coat?
I would love to see an AM with a completely blacked out grille!
How do you remove the A and strip on the back?

I sprayed the entire front grill with Plasti-dip about three months ago. Even the "A". Didn't remove a thing. I masked off a part of the bumper and the hood and, when I was done, I just peeled off the excess. If I get tired of the look, I'll just peel off the whole thing. After reading this thread, I may just peel off the "A". I'm at work now and won't be home until morning, but I'll go home and take a pic and post it for those who are wondering.

I plasti-diped my grill last summer. After about 30K miles it needs a recoat as some salt/rocks took some chips out of it. Still looks great tho. I did mine without removing anything, just got creative with the masking.
Key is to use about 4-5 light coats holding the can about 6-12 inches from the grill. Any closer and it gets too thick. Practice on some scraps first!!

Plastdip Grill and Badges
Just did my grill and badges over the weekend. I also drove over 150 miles since then, highway and off, and everything seems fine. Even did high speed for a little while just to see how it'd hold up. Looks great.
Sorry about the picture quality, left my DSLR at school and only had my iPhone on me. But you get the idea.

Its actually very easy. Just make sure you have enough coats so that when you remove you get all of it at once. I just did the face of my wheels today and finishing the back on sunday (time consuming) but its looks good while I save up money for my wheels. If you dont remove the grill make sure you mask off behind it so nothing gets in the radiator.

So it was nice and easy and went on well. Problem is, I only did the bar going across the middle, and now I think it looks a little mismatched to the wide gray part below.
Anyone know if I can put painters' tape on the plasti dip without pulling it off? I'm just trying to figure out the best way to get the rest of it.
