By the way, did you replace the factory trims as well? I remember the factory trims look too dark to me...

I got the kit from exoticwooddash.com. The Carbon Fiber in this kit has much more depth than the factory carbon fiber . I originally ordered a 23 pc. kit that came with all the pieces except the factory ones. Big difference between them, so I overnight-($40) ordered another 8 pc. kit to go over the factory pieces. I also ordered 4 custom pieces to cover ther warning labels on both sun visors. The total cost with shipping was around $400.

Looks really good. Must have taken a while to get everything in place. By the way, what the heck is carbon fiber exactly anyway?

I don't like the factory carbon fiber, your customed kit looks great!! (but a little too much to me)

Carbon fiber

How is it held in place?

Adhesive? Snaps in?

I did the install. It was easy. Wipe everything with alcohol before the install. Put the kit in the Sun, to warm it up(makes it more flexible). Start with the larger pieces. Lightly put them in place. Peel back off if necessary(try not to handle 3M adhesive backing too much). Then when satisfied , slightly warm with a heat gun and press firmly.

The NEW pieces are made to go right over the OLD pieces. The kit has 3M Adhesive backing(sort of like 2 sided tape) to it. Very secure adhesive, but should be able to removed with a heat gun if it was necessary.

Another name you might be more familiar with: Graphite.

I'm not sure what the origins of the "carbon fiber" trim are. I haven't seen it as trim in a car before the TL. The simulated carbon fiber trim in the TL actuall looks more like a gray Kevlar mesh.

Carbon fiber is the combination of the carbon weaving pattern and the actual carbon itself. The main purpose behind carbon fiber is to produce stronger and lighter material by architecture. I guess it became popular by the weave/checkered pattern. I have also been bitten by the carbon fiber bug because in my past two cars I have had the kit and hopefully when I pick up the TL it'll be the same experience all over again. I love the look.

it looks very nice but its a little too much carbon fiber for me. i think the factory trim is perfect. the only piece that i would be interested in is the passenger dash. i think that piece makes the trim flow nicely with the door trim. how much for just that piece.

Little too much for me. I think i would like parts of that (line across the dash and doors maybe) but not a fan at all of the console/nav area. Looks well done though

To some of you, the kit seems like alot. But, in person, the more I see it, the more I think it really does go well with the interior. Even my picky wife thinks it looks really good, which suprised me.
Also, I think adding around the gauges might be a little glaring from the gauge lights reflecting off the kit at night.

Does Acura sell the carbon fiber kits or individual pieces?
I had a 2001 TL and bought 1 individual piece will it be the same for the 04's?

Jazz, mobile - thanks for the info; I thought maybe it was just a fancy name for a kind of plastic.

The pieces can be ordered

The original Black Carbon or Wood tone pieces with each respective interior color can be ordered through your Acura dealer individually. This is what I did to swap out my Black Carbon original to the Quartz, to have the Wood tone pieces that come with the Camel/Parchment. Check with your parts dept. or Service mgr. The additional kit can be ordered through exoticwooddash.com as mentioned above. The entire package of original pieces were around $325 shipped to the dealer. Hope this helps.
