PIAA wiper Owners

I've got these in my cart at Amazon but have some questions. Do these require any kind of adapters to mount? I have a 2005 TL.

Also what kind of maintenance do you recommend to keep the silicone optimal long term? Do you need to apply the window prep pack regularly or just wipe the wipers down?

PIAA 95065 Use with C1 Adapter
Amazon Amazon

PIAA 97048 Use with U Adapter
Amazon Amazon

no special adapter required, as for the prep pack, its there to help your glass smoother so the blade wipe smoother. For maint I clean mine every month with carwash soap water or denature alcohol.

If you want to really do it right: Combine an Aquapel treatment with the silicone wipers.

Skip the prep pack. Clean the windshield with glass cleaner, clay it, and follow up with an isopropyl alcohol (or CarPro Eraser, Gyeon Prep, etc) wipedown. Then apply Aquapel to the windshield (follow the instructions on the package). Install the PIAA inserts and run the wipers dry for a minute.

Aquapel + PIAA complement each other perfectly. My windshield beads for at least a year after they're installed. It would probably last even longer, but I tend to renew both before the Florida storm season each year.

yes each wiper come with a prep pack. OEM blade is garbage, I replaced oem blade once it lasted about 3 summer months here in TX. Michelin premeium blade or PIAA blade is the only I use now.

OEM blade lasting 3 months? I usually get about 2 years out of mine before I replace the insert.

I traded my car with my brother's TL back in 2012-13 or so. Bought some $60 PIAAs and just swapped them out.

Fast-forward to today, and still have the originals.

Forget the complete blades, grab the inserts and run them in your OEM arms. Both are in stock with Amazon:
94048 94048
94065 94065

And ignore the reviews, some people have learning disabilities.

The OEM inserts are ok, but nowhere near as good as the PIAA super silicone. With the OEM inserts I have to keep reapplying RAINX every few weeks. With the PIAA I never have to reapply. On one of my other cars, the same PIAA inserts were on for 3-4 years and the windshield still repelled water. I've never had the OEM last more than a year, even when I used the JDM inserts. They start streaking within about 9 months for me. (And I regularly clean them)

Bosch Icons are complete crap. They started chattering on two of my cars in less than a month. I only run PIAA now.

Thanks all I went with the PIAA Super Silicone. After applying they did squeak a bit at first and the application wipes left some smearing on the windshield. Ran some water from the hose a few minutes later and it is silent with no squeaks or noise running dry! Excited to try them out when it rains.

Video of the wipers after install:

Installed a set on my daughter's 2014 Jetta. She had PIAA blades on her previous Jetta TDI, and she loved them. Now,18 months later, they still perform well. I normally get at least 6 months service, from OEM inserts, so for what the PIAAs cost me, I could keep my car in blades for 10 tears!

for me, the big difference is that the OEM inserts are shit for heavy rain. You can use RAINX to make it better, but I keep having to reapply every few weeks. With the PIAA blades I never had to reapply for the rain to repel. So the PiAAs performed orders of magnitude better for me in heavy rain.

I installed a set from Les Schwab that are working great. Anyone notice on their set that the connections are not very secure? on mine the plastic connecting piece comes off the wiper arm with a simple downward tug. Other wipers I've installed require a good amount of pressure on a release tab.

You sure they installed PIAA's? I've gotten many sets, and never found that they could come off without pressing a release tab. Sounds like they installed something else. I would never go to Les Schwab for anything, but that's another thread...

Yeah. I installed these myself. PIAA SI-Tech. Maybe I installed a set with damaged plastic connectors. They work well so far though.

Maybe your arms are a little bent? If the clip comes out without pressing the release tabs, maybe you can take some pliers and try to slightly close the 'U' on your arms?
