people who went from a tl-s to a 04/05 tl...
my stepdad is planing to buy a 05 tl, 6 speed with navi; i love my 2002 tl-s but i think having acess to both almost all the time i will pick the 6 speed 05.
so for people who have gone from tl-s to new 6m tl will i not see the point in driving my 02?
should i just sell it and pick up a 03 evo or such?
give me some input

I love the Evos, was about to buy one after seeing the sticker price around 34g including leather no other luxury feature...I was like I can get a TL with Navi for the same amount. I bought a 03 Lancer OZ edition back two years ago...sold it to my brother and decided for the TL.

the 02 tl-s is my stepdads car; but he does not need it between 6-7 and then at nights 90% of the time so i have claimed it mine. he is looking to upgrade with a 05 tl, 6 speed, navi would be a plus but hes not going to make a big deal out of it.
my delemia is that i love his car; great looking car; drives nice; acura replaced the tranny with 32k miles on it and now it has 35k. i keep the car in tip top shape for my stepdad; in the past month or two i have spent 600+ on detailing supplys to keep the car looking its best
about 2/3 through my proscesses.
now my stepdad wants to replace his tl with a 05 and i have the option to buy his 2002 tl-s, 35k miles, never driven hard for 15k from him; OR buy a used evo, 20th ae gti, rsx-s, wrx ect....
what i am concerned about here is if i do buy the tl off him the new 05 will be much more fun to drive and i will bairly touch the 02; and being 16 there is no real reason for me to be driving a luxury sedan when i have 22/7 access to one.
so i am basicly asking if the 02 is worth buying even though there will be a 05 6 speed that could also be claimed mine; along with a gti, wrx, evo, rsx-s, ect..
edit- if the 05>the 02 in most ways and the 02 isnt worth keeping throw out some suggestions or personal experences on a car for me; sub 25k and 15 of it is my own, my parents will lend me 10k but it must be paid back in full bytime i move out of the house at 18.
since you're 16, get a car with a sweet MT. my first car was an AT (with manumatic, which was quite new at the time), and couldn't wait to get rid of it for an MT... and with 3800 miles on my 6MT TL, i regret not getting an MT sooner. my brother has a 2G TL-S, and while it is a sweet car (after a few mods; suspension mods are almost necessary), it wouldn't be the best car for you.
take some time, since you have that luxury, and look around and make an informed decision. a used 330i or a4 (with extended warranty, of course), wouldn't be a bad idea, either. i think a small/medium size sport sedan is the best way to go no matter what. it also depends on how long you're gonna keep it, and where you're going to take it to. but before you go with an rsx-s, take a good look at a TSX 6MT (new: 24.5k w/ some haggling, or if you get it when your stepdad gets his TL). feel free to ask more questions.

I remember driving around my dads old 93 Toyota Previa Mini Van HA. Hey as long as it got from point A to B I was good to go. At the same time my mom wanted to buy a new car...convinced them to buy a Nissan Xterra which I even put my own money towards too, so I can drive it around. That was sorta my car until 19 than I bought a new OZ Lancer; may I add it was YELLOW!!!...I got a good deal that's why I bought it, but after two years it was kinda embarassing driving it to my clients homes. My brother said he needed a car for work and I really did not want to trade it in. So it worked out perfect; gave him my old car and took over payments and I bought the TL. Of course I am a fair guy since he saved me upside down that I could of had if I traded the car in, I told him I'll pay for all the tune ups and payments for the next couple months.
Anyways your a young guy, do what you think its right. If I was in your shoes....I may like the car that you have now, but once a new car rolls up in your driveway you'll be wanting to drive the new car all the time. Evo is a nice car, fast and handles pretty well but it sucks in the winter unless you change the tires and even than it just ok. You know how the weather gets here in Illinois. Do whats practical for you.
P.S. I am sure the 02 TL's insurance would be much cheaper for someone your age versus the EVO.

i dont mind sedans, but hatches and coupes i have a excuse not to drive people all over, and when i do need to use a back seat the 05 will be there.
what else is there i should consider, faster, easily modable, can be driven in the winter if i need to; but i would have access to my moms 2002 crv 5speed with awd
or even the tl; so i am pretty open to suggestions. i like the tsx, but it looks to much like the tl and imo needs some more power stock; if they offered a tsx-s or -r or what ever with 230hp, lsd, sport suspension, better seats (g35 coupe style) i would buy it in a second.
insurance is not a huge deal i have to pay half or so; gas is on me most of the time thats why there isnt a mustang in this lineup.
what else should i consider? i also want something unique; at my school we have a turboed rsx-s 03, 04 e46 m3 owned by the rsx-s kid; 03 evo, bunch of stangs/firebirds/camaros, 2-3 wrx's, few beat to shhit e46 3 series, and hte rest are almost all suvs.
fastest car at the school is the m3; full exhuast, intake, cams, p&p heads, and a claimed 100shot; the evo has tbe, rims/tires, weight reduction, and 272/272 cams tuned by a safcII and got walked all over by the m3.
so what else should be considered?

At age 16, you are bound to do something stupid. Nothing personal -- I was where you are just 6 years ago. The TL-S is plenty of car for you.

A TL-S is probably the perfect car for you at that age. The Evo is a lot of car, and you'll be tempted to race everyone. I was in your exact situation a few years ago, going to a prep school where the parking lot is like a car show. So, i'm not going to go ahead and prejudge and say that you'll wrap it around a tree, because I was driving a prelude-sh at the time, and that sucker was fassst. Just consider who you want to be associated with, respected by. I drive a TL-S now and I think its the perfect car for a college kid who can afford one. You'll appreciate your turbo'd rsx-s now but you wont when you're driving back and forth to whatever school you go to in a couple years. The Evo is nice, but its just a bit to juvenile looking for my tastes. Everytime I see one, its always being driven around by some 21 and under kid trying to race anyone in his path (because whenever I see one, some ricer is trying to provoke him). It just seems like one big ticket waiting to happen. The 330i would look good, but i unless you live in a place with some nice twisties, you'll appreciate the TL-S's power more, and the same goes with the Audi. I'm not worried about you wrapping the car around a tree, i know kids driving regular v6 mustangs who wrap them around trees. Its not the power of the engine that causes people to crash, its the mental capacity of the person driving it. And by considering keeping the TL instead of jumping to the Evo in a heartbeat shows that you at least think before you act. So from a former spoiled kid to a rookie, I'd keep the TL at LEAST until you were settled into college and comfortable with those kind of things. (your car will become a lot less important to you, i promise. You'd much rather be stuck with that 4 door sedan that you can trust for 100k miles than the evo will cause people to regard you as "a child" for forever. I'm not trying to say that the Evo's not a nice car, my little brother has a WRX and its fun as heck to drive, but i'm only 24 now and I dont even like being seen in the thing. Think long haul. You dont want a reason for your dad to say, "well, i already bought you a new car. " Instead, run that tl to 75k miles, then tell your dad that you NEED a new car because your transmission is dying again, and you now want a M3 or a 330Ci Performance Package, or an S4 or a 350z or an S2000. Then at your highschool reunion, you can go back and laugh because their parents will have cut them off, and you'll be riding fast and with class.
Whatever you choose to do, good luck on your decision. If you really want something new, then I say you should go for it. Maybe i'm just bitter from the hastles of maintaining my turbo'd and lowered prelude through the mountainous uva roads. Its fun for that senior year (especially when all your friends have fast cars to play with). But here's what you do. Take that TL-S, and pull up to one of your 330i driving friends at around 3800rpms in 2nd, and look at him, and when he tries to dust you, stomp that gas pedal and show him what honda pride is all about. Good luck, and keep us posted on that decision

I have a 2005 white diamond pearl TL. I've had it about a month and I've noticied that the back bumper (especially where it meets the body over the back tires) seems to be darker than the color of the rest of the car. I was just wondering if all wdp TLs are like this or is it just me....please respond....
You have to consider a few things--
1. Might the 02 have too much power for such a young driver like yourself?? (I'm assuming its a Type-S)
2. Do you/ your parents have enough cash to pay for your insurance?? A young driver with a sport/luxary Acura isn't gonna be cheap. I speak from experience.
I would DEF advise you not to get an EVO or something along those lines. Cops see those cars and go right after them. If you can handle the power and pay for the insurance, keep the '02. It is definetly one sweet car.

I have a 2005 TL 6MT, and I also test drove a 2005 EVO. Evo was faster, and felt more radical. I think a stock WRX is about the same speed as the TL.
But the TL was a nicer car all around. I did not like the fact that the EVO did not have factory cruise control.
You have a wide range of choices, and price does not appear to be an issue. If it was me I'd go for the coolest car possible but then again when I was 16 I did not have a fancy car, I got my parent's old Pontiac.
