What kind of paint are we talking here? House or automotive paint?

Have you tried some Goo Gone or just plain soap and water? Put some on a towel and let the damp towel sit on top of the paint for a bit and then try to wipe it off.

You can also try using some detailing clay and/or a bottle of Meguair's PlasticX. I believe both the clay and the PlasticX contain micro-abrasives that will help you remove contaminants and polish the headlight's plastic surface, but the clay's abrasives are more fine.

Start off trying to remove the paint non abrasively and work your way towards coarser methods. Good luck.

You might want to check out the Wash & Wax forum as well.

You can try using few drops of nail polish remover on a cotton ball and rub gently until the pain it gone.
