Paint Depth

Can anyone tell me what is the factory paint depth for an 2006 TL ? Does anyone know where I can get my TL measured in the NYC metro area so that I can get an idea on how much clearcoat I have left since I am the 2nd owner ?

Thanks in advance.

Post in the detailing section, one of those guys will probably have the tool to measure the depth and get it done and can post up on the forum for you. Come back and update this thread so that we all know as well.

I use to mil Acura's here and there, when I was a painter. It's been awhile but I would say OEM Acura thickness was 4-5, 4.5-6 or so. In general, OE automotive finishes should be between 4-8 mils. Honda/Acura is on the thin side.

There is probably no way to measure just the clear thickness, as it sits now. When painters need to measure the clear thickness, or individual layers, they mil the base coat before, then mil after the clear application has hardened. At this point, you will only come up with an overall thickness with the common type of digital magnetic mil gage. I'm unsure if there is a type of mil gage that can accurately measure just the clear. There probably is, but I would imagine you would have a tough time finding one available.

Pick up the yellow pages for your area and look up Detailers and call them and ask if they have a paint thickness meter.

Some of the high end ones might and if your not looking for a super detailed 400 point inspection but more of a 3 spots per panel you could prolly get it done for $20 or so.

Even a cheap meter is $300 or so.
