Paint Chip... Help!

I was going over my car last night and I noticed a chip in my paint next to my sunroof that looks pretty bad .

What can I do to fix it or will this have to be professionally fixed? The size is roughly the size of a pea, but I do not want it to grow worse.

Thanks AZ!
JW

damn that looks rough.

deep, webbing, down to clearcoat.

looks like some sanding, body filler, and respray are in order.

touch up paint wont be able to do much on that. it'll just keep getting worse and worse unless you have it professionaly fixed.

Ouch! That's a bad one. Def going to need to call in the professionals for that one. Your right though, you need to get it fixed otherwise it's going to get worse for sure.

I have had a chip similar to that (but not quite as big) on my hood for a good year now, lucky for me I installed one of those electronic pulse devices that sends a charge through the body of the car to combat rust...the chip still looks pretty much the same...damn one of these days I need to fix it tho

^Sounds like a great way to fix it.
Seriously get it fixed by a pro as previous posters have said.

I don't get it, fix your chip by a "pro?" No "pro" can fix a chip professionally, it needs to be repainted to be professionally fixed, so what's wrong with scratching off the rust and touching it up.

The only thing that I can think of is that a "pro" if there is such a thing in the chip filling business, is that they will fill it with touchup paint, fill it more, sand it and polish. It still not professionally fixed.

So what exactly do you all mean by having it professionally fixed.

Body work and painted or touched up?

It depends on how deep the rust is, if it has eaten through the metal it needs to be be cut out then have new metal welded over the hole, sanded down until the metal is smooth then repainted. Considering that this rust is on the roof you could get away with painting just that section while blending the paint to the sides. It would be hard to tell the the color match may be off. Even if you were to take it to a shop if the rust don't eat all the way through the metal they would sand the rust off then paint it.
