Hi all. I have a 2003 TL with 40K miles and am considering trading it in on a 2004 TL with 17K miles. They are asking 24K for the car and I owe nothing on mine (probably worth 15-16K in trade). Would you consider it?

there is essentially no difference between the two cars.....except mileage. Why pay a $8,000 differential for a 1 year newer car with 23,000 less miles.
Unless you want a new color combo, and this car has nav and your current TL does not.

IMO the 04 is a giant step up from the 03. Two of my friends have 02 type-s's and one has an 03 TL-P. The navi in those cars SUCKS compared to the system in the 04. I feel the interior is MUCH nicer in the 04's than 03's. Exterior, i love the 04's as well.

it all comes to personal preference......

maybe wait till 09 for the redesign?

Thanks. I do like the design of the 04 much better then the 03 as well. And I like the fact that the car is a 6 speed man compared to my 5sp auto.

personally, i would never get a manual trans in anything other than a RWD/AWD sports car, and the TL is def neither of the above. But like i said, personal preference.
be sure to get navi, it really completes the interior in the 04-07's. Plus, with under $1000 in mods, yous can make your 04 look real similar to the 07-09's. IMO, the 2G's look is a little dated.

Personally I think 24k sounds a bit high but that's just me... the '04, being the first model year of a major redesign, had more than its fair share of problems...

I would consider that although the 2004 is a major upgrade from the 2G TLs, it is a first year model and will have first year problems. For example, although rattles are common w/ all 3G TLs, 2004s will most likely have more rattles than 2006s or 2007s. Also, it was noted on this forum that something had to be added to the early 2004s for the 3rd gear tranmission vibration...or something like that. If I were you, I would do alot of research on the 2004s before pulling the trigger.

Lets be fair now.. :-) More than it's fair share of rattles maybe, but not "problems"...
I purchased my 04 in Dec 03 and the only visit to the dealer has been for a seat cover issue.. Sure you hear/read of individual nightmares but overall the 2004+ TL has been top rated for Mx issues..

It could be better, but it is better than other vehicles....
