Once again Schooled by a 335i...
Came up on a 335 coupe standing at a light, 6 speed bone stock. We went at it on green he took me real easy from the line up to 60, and then just kept walking away up till about 100 when we had to slow down.. Second run, he gave me half-car lenght, and by the time we hit 50 he was even with me, at 75 he was in front... What is up with those cars?? They seem to be at least as fast as the previous gen e46 M3's.. I need to get some mods going.. I'm disappointed This is the second on I raced, the first one was auto but almost the same result...

20 more hp, 40+ more lb-ft torque. Yes they are as fast as e46 M3's, maybe faster.
The best ive seen a stock 335 run at the track was a 13.2 with a guy who really knew how to drive it. The 6 speeds have really good gearing also. Dont sleep on the new IS350s either

The 335i is only faster (outright) if it's chipped. Stock vs stock, the E46 M3 would ultimately start to pull on the 335i as speeds increase.

Just accept your Type-S for what it is man...the 335 is in a whole different league.

OP: With full exhaust mods, the car will be much quicker as ANX said.

He didn't elaborate on just how much pull (and the question didnt come to mind, on my part) but as you alluded, the former is ~150lbs lighter and packs 33hp more than the latter.

E46 M3 - N/A w/ a great powerband
335i - TT w/ 300TQs available at 1500RPM
I don't even bother racing them .. maybe when I get pre-cats / pullies / catback but until then .. haha

335i is a beast. Takes less than a grand, & they get even faster real quick.
As far as I've seen, you'll need to be full bolt-on or turbo to hang with them or beat one.

No surprise...you'll have no problems against a 328i.

BMW knew the e90 M3 was still a year away when the 335 came out in late '06. They also knew it would a tough sell on the final e46's, at least to the straight line speed freaks, if they divulged the true numbers. Plus, the 335 destroys the e46 in the torque department.

There are a few e46 M3s running quicker times than the 2011 335i is supposed to run. I say in the 1/4 the new e90 will probably win but go from a roll or to higher speeds its MPower FTW.

Actually from what i've been reading, the N55 isn't as fast as the N54. Some people who have ran their N55 have been running slower times with slower trap speeds.

I think I'm going to buy a CPO 335i 6MT Saloon in another year and a half or so and do the JB3, downpipes and dual cone intake, leaving the rest of the exhaust stock. Should be one hell of a sleeper.

^^ I want a 335i so bad. It's the perfect blend of luxury/speed. It's really quick from the factory, and silly fast with only a few mods. The interior is amazing, exterior just as sexy (whether coupe or sedan) and it sounds smooth as hell. If I could afford it now I'd sell the Accord and go for it, but I'm trying to get my own place.

Ouch, that one guy trapped only 101. Hell, my TL can do that. The one road test I read had an n55 running 13.00 @ 107. I'll have to look for the link.

I've been eyeing the 335i as well and totally agree with the 335i being a perfect blend of luxury/speed and ease of modification but the big thing that worries me is the HPFP. Even though they extended the warranty (for the HPFP) to 100k miles i've heard too many stories and know a at least 6 owners that have had to take a trip to the dealership for the HPFP multiple times. I've had my G for almost 3 years now and it has only seen the dealership for warranty work on one occasion.

Maybe it was the 335is, but aren't they the same engine output?
And a lot of people hate on the 335's interior, but I like the minimalist, high quality look and feel. The 4G TL's interior is a trainwreck imo.

Then the 335 I ran into in the VA mountains must had been a slug...I was behind a 335X1 (?) not sure of the year...They first trailed me and then passed with attitude...sure enough we met again...both vehicles making left turns into a doule lane which turned into a single lane about a mile further down the road...They gun it and so do I but the Beemer gave up moved over and tried to keep pace from the rear, but she/he could not handle the twistees the way way old girl did..So 335xi/1 dont scare me...wifey's 4g mt SH-AWD (shit all wheel drive!!)..

And it was the driver who couldn't handle the twisties, not the car.
(And you do realize the 335xi is AWD as well I hope.)

From what I've gathered, the N55 motor is a better overall motor and when the dynos are overlayed, it's damn near impossible to tell the difference between the N54 and N55 from 2000rpms to fuel cut. We're talking 2 to 3 whp give or take. I'd much rather have the N55 because it's more simple, it's lighter, makes the same power, and has better MPGs. Sounds like a winner to me.
