.. CONVERTING YOUR FOGLIGHTS TO "HID".. BECAUSE THEY ARE NO LONGER FOGLIGHTS.. IT'S JUST ANOTHER DAMN SET OF XENONS.. SO NOW YOU HAVE TWO.. WHICH LOOKS KINDA RETARDED IMHO

Leave the fking fogs alone or get yellow bulbs.

That's like all I see now.. are posts on installing "HID FOGLIGHTS" and then trying to get them to work

hey man, its useful for people who have bad eyesight even with the xenon headlights lol. also its good to have them hid fog on during daytime so u dont have to use ur headlight during the daytime (decrease the usage)

Well it defeats the purpose of having foglights; foglights are designed to be used during low visibility situations - they are generally aimed lower and have a lower light output to prevent reflection back to the driver which would decrease visibility even further.

Also, the foglights on the TL do not turn on unless you have your headlights on. So now you have to turn on your xenon headlights to turn on your new xenon no longer fog lights.

I don't think this thread is retarted... I agree... hid fogs make absolutely no sense and blind those of us who have dropped cars lol

my civic is dropped 2" all the way around... anytime someone's got hid fogs i am blinded from all sorts of directions... if the light reflects off my rearview I can't see and if they are coming from the opposite direction I see even less....

fog lights are for the fog not for people who can't see, if they need more light to see they shouldn't drive at night...

Ive seen a TL with fogs converted into HIDs. I thought it looked pretty cool...

If I did mine I wouldnt drive with them on all the time. But I wouldnt do mine.

If they do in fact help more when its foggy then by all means Im for it....

Right - if they did help i'd do it too - but I seriously doubt they do because that housing is made for fog lights and I doubt most people are aware of D2S vs D2R bulbs.. so what you end up with is a giant blue glare that's useless in low visibility conditions

And please don't give me shit about a useless thread people, what's useless are the 5 different threads in the general TL forum about installing or getting your HID fogs to work.

I agree. HID fogs are pretty gay.

Of course I think a lot of stuff for cars are gay such as: shopping cart wings, coffee can exhaust, bling bling rims, 5% tint, ...I could go on for hours.

Very true,

We all see things everyday with other individuals vehicles that either make us laugh, cringe, or at a minimum say I wouldn't do that to my car.... But like others have mentioned, to each his/her own.

I'm sure folks look at my TL and say: For God's sake man! Do something to that car, it's "so" stock!!

Butttt,, cars having numerous sets of HID's (installed inappropriately) that blind me as they pass - that is irritating...

5% tint?

man I think thats what sets my car off in the back.....but, I respect your opinion.

I never have and never will understand why people stagger wheels on a FWD car. just seems so impractical. but this thread is not about that.

Well I never said anything was gay. I just want to know the purpose of it - it might look neat, but from someone who actually uses fog lights I think turning them into HID lights defeats the purpose of the entire setup; because you're now using high intensity lights that have a much higher output than fog lights - the opposite of what you want in low visibility conditions due to fog.

another reason people could be doing this is because they plan on installing the Accord foglights where our lower grills are. I actually think the placement of our fogs are horrible.

Having fogs on the bottom then allows for HID conversion where the foglights are, thus brightening the roads on a regular night. At the same time, the Accord foglights would still be there to serve their purpose.

Don't be so quick to judge other people's intentions.

If everyone here who installed HIDs into the foglight housing buys the Accord fog lights and installs them I would be amazed; that still doesn't change the fact that you're putting an HID system into a fog light housing, light housings and relfectors are engineered to serve a purpose - it's not like Acura grabs a housing and says let's put 35 reflecting surfaces on there, that should be good. It's a engineered product to produce a specific light pattern using a specific bulb; desgined to increase visibility in low visbility conditions due to fog.

To me, it's a waste of $500 or $600 + installation if you don't do it yourself; much better and useful things can be purchased for the TL.

Like others have said, to each their own, I do think they look neat, they just don't serve a purpose, and for me "modding" my car means changing things for a purpose and for a reason, whether it be increased horsepower, better handling, etc - fine - but much like people who can't stand to have DRLs (which you cannot see when you're driving and want to get rid of them, I don't see any added benefits in doing this.

One good thing will come of this; whenever you see a TL with HID lights in the foglight housing you'll know he/she is an Acurazine member.

I'd guess that less than 10% of people understand the true purpose of fog lamps, and even if they did, they don't care. To most people, fog lamps are there to look cool. If they turn these modded lamps on during the day to look cool, no harm done. If they turn them on at night and blind on-coming cars, it's just one more reason to get pulled over, and a potential for accidents on narrow roads.

If they swap them out in Cali it's definately enough to get pulled over and a fix it ticket!

The useful point I see is that it may educate a few would-be modders to avoid an expensive mistake. If you spend good money on this mod, and end up getting forced to undo it, you'll regret it.

Car lamps (headlamps, DRLs, fog lamps, etc) are a difficult compromise. You want to illuminate the road ahead, but you don't want to dazzle oncoming drivers. If you switch between 'high beam' and normal headlamps as you drive along a dark road, you can see just how carefully focused the lamps are. Fog lamps are not focused in that way, but they are relatively low power to compensate (and should only be turned on in fog anyway). If you put HID bulbs in place of the fog lamps, you are now essentially driving with high-beam lamps, wihout the ability to instantly 'flick' from high-beam to low beam when you encounter an on-coming car. This opens you up to being pulled over and/or causing an accident by blinding oncoming cars.

i think rodneyc77's fog set up is HOT.

concerning your "blinding" issues.... its simple mathmatics..

10000k bulbs.... bright,blinding & blue. = NO visibility
4300 ~ 6000k bulbs... useful and tasteful.... if it matchs your OEM head lamps, it look sssssiicckk

however, i am only talking about lower fog set ups 07+ TL's, and modded 04+...

yes, if you are putting HIDs into the 04-06 OEM fog housing, thats just silly & blinding, because they are next to each other. it just produces one bright glowing mass

Yes, please keep HID in its belonging housings(projectors corrected cut-off shields). Not to mention an HID bulb in a halogen,in this case a fog light, is just pure blindness for oncomming traffic. If i was an officer, i would pull ya over, make ya take the bulb out, and step on it

well honestly, i think a 4300k - 6000k HID fog in the "LOWER" (keyword, lower) portion of the bumper is classy... i may intend on doing it to my 08 tl-s... as long as it doesnt start melting shit

I don't have HID fogs, but if I did...I pay the note...ya feel me? People can do what they want to do with their fogs, tint, wheels or whatever else they want to modify within legal limits on their car. Who cares what someone else thinks? That's why these types of threads are useless, or a better word - pointless.

Not saying this to get on you Timmah, but to express a viewpoint on the "flaming" of other people's car just because the mod doesn't meet your code of approval. My car, I own it - I can do what I want...end of story. Having said that, if someone ASKS others for their opinion of their mods and they are "wack" - IT'S ON!!

(I would go with the yellow for change tho)
