I think you six speed guys burn more oil...
I have read many comments from others claiming up to 1/2 quart in 3-4 thousand miles. For the first few oil changes, and even beyond - that is still acceptable. Many folks believe that an engine shouldn't burn any oil, and heck some engines don't appear to. But the fact remains, pistons/rings and valve stems need lubrication and some oil will get "burned" through the process.

My AT TL has about 2800 miles but has yet to show any visible movement on the dip stick.... I attribute this to near all highway miles and only being run semi-hard a hand full of times.

If I owned a six speed, I'm sure the "above 5000" rpm range on the tack would get more use.... The more time one spends in the upper RPM range the more oil use you will have.

Thats "just" my professional opinion anyway...

Take care

I'm not saying this is the case with the TL, but some motors use low tension oil rings to get a little additional HP. I know this was the case with my old 5-0 Mustang. Perhaps the TL also uses low tension oil rings; if that is the case, then burning oil wouldn't be abnormal to the tune of 1qt per 6-8K miles. Just keep and eye on it and add if necessary.

I looked at my oil level after about 1,000 miles to check. It was half way to the fill mark at that time. It does not seem to have moved in the last 1,000 miles.

Did you check it earlier to be sure that it is going down?

Yes, I have been watching it from mile 3 and it went down one half a quart somewhere between 3,000 and 3,500.
