Oil Filter Correct Size
hi i have 2005 TL. Went looking for an oil filter. At autozone they have a bosch 3323 which is tall and a shorter fram ph6607. Which is the right OEM size.
Thanks

The short one is better, but don't use Fram.
There was a thread here recently where the guy put the longer filter in, hit a big pothole, and the suspension arm hit the filter, causing it to leak, and he luckily discovered this before he did some major damage to the engine.
So there is a good reason for using the short, factory specified, filter.
What's wrong with using the OEM Acura filter. The oil filter part no. is 15400-PLM-A01. Don't use the 15400-PLM-A02, which is made by Fram and is not very good.

Bosch filters are fine, they're low-end Champion Lab filters. The Supertech line is also a low-end Champion line of filters, but they've switched to the new Ecore design. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Eventually, a lot of the low-end Champion filters will probably be some form of the Ecore design, but until then, the Bosch and STP filters are good bets.

Do a search on Fram filters. They are generally considered to be one of the poorest constructed filters on the market. Additionally, the filter media is sub-par and their internal valving is inadequate. You can read all about filters and oil on: www.bobistheoilguy.com

Honestly, I've personally never seen a Fram fail. But because of their poor construction, I refuse to recommend the Extra Guard and Tough Guard models.

Here's a good thread from the 3G Garage
C-007: DIY: 04TL oil filter
https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/am-i-only-one-80570/
If anyone can find that thread about the larger filter getting hit by the suspension part and leaking, or if the writer reads this, please give me the link so I can use refer to it when someone says they want to use the really long filter.

STP- I answered the question above. The STP and the Bosch are good choices until they adopt the lousy Ecore design.

Thanks guys, I just bought 12 quarts of Amsoil 5W-30 and a filter. Unfortunately it cost 90 dollars. If anyone in southern california (either near 91768 or 91030) need amsoil, let me know, I purchased the preferred customer thing so I can get it a bit cheaper.

Hey Ron A;
I bought 2 extra 15400-PLM-A02 Honda filters a month ago (now I have three) to have around. You say they're not all that good? Oops. I have been using the Mobil 1 M1-104, which is listed as Mobil 1's OEM replacement for this engine. Guess I'll go back to the Mobil 1 filter and save the 15400-PLM-A02's for the wife's car??

Southern Boy: Hi. It's not me saying that as much as most everyone else that reports on oil filters. I personally have never liked Fram, and I can't really say why but maybe something happened in the past that I don't remember.
If you can avoid using them in the TL, that would probably be better. A search on Fram will give you lots of threads to look at.

You have earned my undying gratitude. Thank you very much. Somehow Peter Ubers name came to mind as the writer of the thread, but I didn't think to search his posts for the thread.

hi, i think there is some missunderstanging as to what the short or long filter is. I got the short one and when i went to get my oil changed i found that the original oem filter was the longer one (looks the same size as the mobile m1-110 and bosch 3323). I have a 2005 and that was the factory filter. i had to just use their penzoil filter which was the correct size. Can some explain why people are saying that the long filter is the factory filter?
Thanks

Yeah, I'm familiar with some tests done and examples of some of the various filters and Fram didn't fair too well. At one time, years ago, they made a fine filter. But weren't they bought out be Bendix or some British company and their quality went to hell??
I used to religiously use their air filters (in the 60's) because they were top notch back then. Now if you examine them, you wouldn't put them on your lawnmower.

Didn't see the 5W-20 when I was perusing the site, but since it's there, I'm having them fix my order
