it's not required (synth), but if that's what you want, then they should be more than happy to provide it.

regular dino is fine and you can switch to synth the next go around. the SA probably is thinking he's saving you some money by telling you this. dont' stress about it.

Like stated above, it's not required but you can use it if that's ur preference. I have 2 TLs and I use Mobile 1 Synthethic Oil.

He's right. It's not needed. Dino works fine but synthetic is typically superior when it comes to wear protection, high temperature extremes, resistance to sludge, better lubrication during cold starts, and possibly increased power output due to less drag on the engine.

Considering you normally only need 2-3 oil changes a year, and the cost difference is $20-$30 each for a good synthetic over dino, I'd consider it a pretty small annual cost for peace of mind of a rather large investment (your engine that is...).

I use synthetic just in case I forgot to change the oil within computer recommended then the real oil life is much further than computer calculated.

the only engine i use synthetic in is my Yamaha Vino 125 and that is because i run it an average of 50 miles day wide open throttle at 9.5K during the riding months

Not going to use synthetic until it is recommended by Acura for my car.

Funny how Hondas have a long long history of 300k+ motors on reguklar old non synthetic oil.....

I agree Robo Warrior. I use castrol gtx 5w-20 conventional in my tl type S and know that hondas have gone to 300K using conventional oil, I used conventional castrol in my civic Si.
OP: the dealer is just being honest. Your TL does not need synthetic , it is an option to use it if you want, you just pay a bit more.

Just got my Penzoil Full Synthetic oil change today from my local Hendrick Acura dealer for $39 + tax and disposal fee. Price is hard to beat, unless you do it yourself (which is easy).

It's their method of getting people into the dealership so the can inspect and find other things to fix.

That is a good price. I pay $36 bucks for 5w30 and $7 for a Honda oil filter. Plus I have to take my oil to a jiffy lube to discard. The stealership in my area charges $70 for a synthetic oil change.

been running regular old dino oil on my car since it had 2 miles on it. has 161k on it now. if you want synthetic do it. just make sure you get what you pay for. some synthetic oil that is advertised as synthetic is not a true synthetic.
