Oil Change

So my A1 service soon reminder came up and I know this means that its time for an oil change, but i have some questions because this is my first oil change with the car:
- Should i do it my self or bring it to the dealer? I have a scheduled appointment already
- If i were to do it myself what brand of oil and weight should i use? (mobil 1, royal
purple etc..)
- How much do they charge you when you bring it to the dealer? And what type of oil do they use?

I have a 07 type-s with 8k, I'm not sure how much this helps. I new to this so please enlighten me.

They'll use Honda Filter 15400-PLM-A02 which by all reports is NOT a very good filter (search "PLM-A02" for much discussion). Probably bulk 5W-20 (or maybe a 30 weight) dino oil. If it costs more than $30 for Oil Change and Filter, it's over-priced.

DIY is fairly easy. Use a quality filter; many available Honda 15400-PCX-004, Mobil1, HAMP, K&N, etc. Recommended Weight is 5W-20, but some advocate a 30 weight instead. If you stay with ~5,000 mile oil change intervals reputable dino oil is OK and so are the popular synthetics - lot of people here like Mobil1, as well as Royal Purple.

So can i tell them i want the 15400-PCX-004 filters instead of the 15400-PLM-A02? How good is the dino oil?

Dino oil is fine.

If you have the wherewithal to do it yourself, by all means do it.

Anything > $30 is too much for an oil change.

Acura won't have 'em. That's the Honda S2000 Filter. Get it from a Honda dealer or order them from HandA. Or let the Honda dealer do basic service on your Acura (Oil, Filter, Rotation, etc); might be cheaper too.

If you are very lucky, your Acura dealer might still have a few 15400-PLM-A01 Honda Filters; that's a better filter originally spec'd for the TL/TL-S.

I let the dealer do almost everything and found it to be a rewarding experience. Found bubbling rust spots on my hood. Took it to my Acura dealer and the manager explained that it is not from within but from rock chips. And if you don't take care of it right away, it'll start to bubble and the warranty doesn't cover it at all. He then asked if we always service our car here at the dealer and I said yes. He then said, he'll do it this time, but just to let me know, it's not usually covered.

So a good rep with your dealer wins out in my experience!

To be honest, it sounds like you might be better off letting the dealer change your oil, than possibly messing things up yourself.

Oil changes

I like to change the oil myself as I have heard many horro stories of oil changes being done even by the dealers and they did not cover the damage. I like to use synthetic oils, and have just recently started to use Royal Purple as all of the articles I have read, highly recommend this oil. My return question is, if I put in 10w-30, will this do any internal damage and must I use the 5w-20, and why?

way more beneficial to go to a local shop and see if you can watch them doing it if it is your first time doing an oil change period

but it is stupid proof, I mean literally the drain plug says it, and the filter can't be missed (except when it's covered in break dust <- happens to mine )

It's just an oil change. Either do it yourself or take it to the dealer. Use conventional motor oil as synthetic is not necessary.

$40 (or so) is a reasonable price.

If I were to let a local shop do the oil change all I have to do next is reset the Oil Life on the Trip Computer right?
Just want to make sure there's nothing else that needs to be done.
