Exclamation Is this normal for Stop tech D/S rotors????

Sorry mods if this is in the wrong section...

I have abt 1000 miles on these and i did not know they would get so brown/rust colored so quick...

they have been on my car for abt 3-4 weeks...

first 200 miles i babied them...middle 400 miles was normal driving...last 400 miles i never went above 55-60 mph...

Installation pic

after 1000 miles

is this normal or could these be defective or something?

I believe the rotors have a very high carbon content and rust/discolor.. ? Unless the rotor has been painted they all end up like that after a short time..

It is the rotor getting surface rust. That is normal with uncoated rotors. rotors that are coated (zinc coating) do not get this.

common with rotors- even the hi tech black (or other) factory applied coatings- they come off and the end result is the same
The surface temp of the rotor is pretty intense- you might get 1100 degree BBQ paint to stay on in the holes and slots.
Brand new slotted rotors with coatings- the slots are bare after the initial test drive!

and you need to go bed those brakes in big time! the cross hatch marks should be worn away by now. Performance brakes like to be used~
Here is a good method- I helped write and test it on my 01TL- its a combo of methods from several sources and real life experience- with explanations of whats happening in the process
