Is this normal?

I have been experiencing mild to moderate vibrations during the first five miles during warmup. It then goes away. Is this vibration normal?

Welcome to flatspotting. What tires to you have?

Flatspotting is common among many high performance tires with nylon caps.

The BS EL42s are notorious for have a large degree of flatspotting.

I also experience a little flatspotting with my Falkens but as you describe, it goes away after a couple of miles.

"Search" is your friend.

There are tons of threads on this topic. There are also different kinds of vibrations.

Search word = vibration

Most high performance/high speed tires have nylon caps. Many on this board think that flatspotting is the sign of a bad tire but it's really just a characteristic of most high performance tires.
More info from TireRack

Many automakers overinflate their tires at the factory to minimize flatspotting prior to delivery to the customer. I know Toyota Siennas are manufactured this way. The dealer is supposed to set the tire pressure correctly at delivery.

I assume you're talking about the flatspotting that the other posters have mentioned. But if you're talking about the vibrations in the car when you're idling at a stop light, then yes, it's fairly normal. My engine idles rougher than usual in the first 5-10 minutes in the morning and then it's fine for the rest of the day.

OK, so then let's just all agree that flatspotting is a sign of an inferior high performance tire for a luxury sport sedan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, flatspotting is not a necessary evil for tires in this class. The original BS EL42's on my car had it and it never drove out. My much higher-performance Michelin PS A/S's have never demonstrated any discernable flatspotting, even when parked for a week in cold weather.

Make your TL all it can be - get rid of your EL42s.

True, true...my Yokohama Parada Spec-2s's on my 18s (on the Accord) never showed signs of flatspotting. And these were W-rated tires!

Yes, I do have the BS EL42 tires. This vibration is most noticable when I park outside overnight. Typically it has been getting down to around the low 40s. I parked in the garage last night and did not get any vibration this AM.

What concerns me is that will this get worse when the WX gets colder. Not that it is that cold here in ATL.

I live in ATL, park outside, and have the same issues...what color is your TL? I see a green one, a black one (like mine) and a white one on the Connector when I am going to work / coming home.

I just put my snow tires on. The EL 42's are finally down to the wear bars ! Ordering some michelin PS2's in spring. BTW, I only got about 15K out of the EL's.

I have a Satin Silver, non A-Spec. I live in Smyrna and work in Midtown, so I run the 75 corridor.
