NON-CPO TL-S at Acura dealer - problem with car????

I'm looking at a used TL-S at a so cal Acura dealer. the car is priced low, mileage is slightly high but not bad, but car is NOT CPO.

car is an 07 w/ 44k miles.

why would they NOT CPO it? i candidly aske dhte guy if the car had some problem resulting in non CPO and he claimed it was a great car, no problems, they just wanted to price it low and didn't add CPO.

sounded like BS to me...what do you all think???

if I were to pursue this car, and they didn't CPO it, but I added a wrap around warranty that extended the Acura bumper to bumper coverage up to 100k mmiles, what would it cost me retail??

The dealers have to pay a fee to CPO a car, and they usually add it to the price. It's suprising they wouldn't do it, being an Acura dealer and all. The mileage on that car is high for a 2007.

The Acura extended warranty for that car would probably cost about $1500 or so.

How much are they asking for it?

Acura can certify a car up to 80,000 miles or 5 years old. once the car turns 6 years from the inservice date the car can no longer be certified. While the mileage is a little on the high side for an 07, it still meets the certification requirements. Go over that car with a fine tooth comb. I guarentee you will find something funny. It does cost more to Certify a car, but the amount the dealer makes in return makes it worth it especially with the car being a Type S. Why wouldn't they Certify it. Carfax it and check it top to bottom. No way in the world that car wouldn't have been Certified at the Acura Dealer I used to work at, unless it was trashed and then it would get shipped to the Auction. Good luck.

i would run from that car if acura refuses to certify it, im pretty sure their standards are very low, and if this falls somehow below it, there must be some serious issues with it

ask them to certify it if they sell it to you, if you refuse ask them for any damages and what-not. If they fail to tell you anything, then tell them what's the issue for not certifying it. If they do tell you the damages, you now know what happened!

NEVER believe a single word from a car salesmans mouth
They dont know squat and will say anything to make commission this month

Carfax sucks too-= it only knows what its been told

If you pay cash/check for body repairs, that NEVER goes to carfax-
only if the insurance paid out- then insurance notifies carfax

Have a pro mechanic at another shop look over and under any car you really like.
run the vin thru acura 1-800-382-2238x5 tell them looking to buy and want history

the whole point of buying used from acura dealer is that it comes with CPO warranty-
otherwise buy it off the street for a no warranty sale and get aftermarket warranty

Cars are not selling these days- you are in a position to bargain - but skip salesmen and go right to sales manager for right info and deal

Just out of curiosity what exactly does a certified car do for the new buyer? Is it literally just piece of mind or do they add some sort of warranty to the car? I always thought that when a deal means a carf is certified its pretty much means they claim a mechanic went over the car (which in my eyes means they didnt do shit lol).
Check the car over yourself its pretty easy to tell if a car has original paint or not.

Repairs needed to meet Acura CPO standards may be too costly for the dealer:

If the tires are worn below 5/32nd's, that's 800-900 dollars for a set of OEM tires.

If no service records are available, 45k service (@$400)needs to be done.

If brakes pads are worn below 50%, that's another $ 300 for pads and rotor resurfacing. Double that if the rear also needs to be done.

Deep gashes in the bumper ? Several hundred for a new OEM bumper and color matching

New tires, brakes, fix any defects/issues with the car, the car has had no body-work/ repairs/repaints done to it. As well they extend the factory warranty by 1 year, 12K and extend powertrain to 6 years, 100K miles

To clarify, NEW tires are only installed if there is less than 5/32nd's left on the old tires. Brakes pads are replaced only if there is more than 50 percent wear.

Minor accidents, minor bodywork, minor paintwork can still qualify for CPO status. A properly repainted bumper is nothing to hamper CPO status.

The question to ask is how tough and detailed is the dealer in it's 150 point inspection ??

a tech breezes thru the inspection and checks off the `ok` boxes
You need to look at everything on a lift, at a seperate shop, to look for damage and services needed

ziners have writen horror stories of picking up a CPO car at night assuming it was perfect- only to discover in the daylight it had poor repaint after crash and other issues
Never pick up a car alone- a friend can see things you might miss or at night where you cant see whats really there
inspect inspect inspect- take pic pic pic- dont leave the lot without every detail being noted in the contract and who is responsible for repair
otherwise you caused that damage

The beauty of the CPO is the powertrain warranty--that means engine and more importantly on a auto TL- TRANS warranty to 100
thats worth it right there
ask any gen2 owner- we got a special 7.9/109 COURT ordered extended warranty- and the 04 05 has essentially the same trans and same prob with only a 50k mile warranty

It is true that the dealer will keep some cars not cpo, for the person who doesnt know about TL's and thinks saving on the `sales price` is a good idea

IF they wont run THAT car thru- there is something fishy

you can get the history of any acura with the vin and call 1-800-382-2238x5
tell them looking to buy and want history check
thats acura customer care for anything you need-
everyone should be registered there too- they mail recall info and need current owner info
