No Ashtray?

This is probably a repost. I'm not a smoker, that's why I've just noticed that there isn't an ashtray to be found in the vehicle. Am I wrong about this?

You are right.....no ashtray. And no lighter. My last car, a Saab, came with two lighters but no ashtray. I think these are subtle hints for smokers to quit.

By the way.....where is Holden?

I think its an option. Honda got greedy, and I don't think they're including ash trays anymore. My 99 CL had ashtrays "stock". But my 01 Civic and 04 TL do not have them. But I think you can buy them seperate.

Actually, what they offer is an ashtray that sits in one of the cup holder holes. It does have a lid on it, but other than that, it's little more than a tin can.

Don't smoke and you won't miss the ashtray. Why would anyone want to stink up their new car anyway..leather smells much better than butts. I'll probably get flamed from the smokers among us but it's just my .02cents.

All Honda cars do not come with ashtrays.

I don't smoke (quit over 37 yerars ago), but I'm not nuts about not smoking like some people. However, there is no way I would smoke in this car even if I did smoke. Like JetJock said, why would you want to stink up a perfectly good car??

It's all a matter of cost-efficiency. At one time, because of the way assembly lines operated, it was actually cheaper to include ashtrays and lighters in every car, as opposed to having two lines or having a procedure to leave out these items in some cars.

Manufacturing processes have changed now, however, and assembly lines have a bit more flexibility, which results in greatly reduced cost for minor changes between units. This means that it's no longer more expensive to leave the "smoking" accessories out in some models, while leaving them in others... in fact, It's cheap enough that leaving the parts out actually saves money on each unit (which seems obvious, but in the past, it really didn't work out this way).

This new ability to leave these items out originally resulted in two different models being made. Thus, smokers would sometimes end up with a car built for non-smokers. So, what did they do? They ordered the smoking parts from the manufacturer. Once the manufacturers figured out that they could actually save money by leaving the parts out, then MAKE money by selling the parts as after-market accessories, a lot of them simply started making ALL their cars as non-smoking models, something that would have worked in the beginning, but no one ever thought of it.

Nowadays, most cars are made as non-smoking cars for this reason. It has nothing to do with a "subtle" push to end smoking. It's pure economics. In fact, it's so "normal" now, that cars are no longer being designed with "smoking" accessories in mind. That's where the relatively universal "cupholder" ashtrays and the like come from.

technically there is 3 ashtrays, just not one that the driver can easily access. not only is there not an ashtray for the driver, but if you were to buy a lighter made for acuras it won't work. I looked it up it was like $120 for an ashtry/lighter setup. I smoke but i just use a bic and the window.
