I currently have a 2004 5AT TL with Navigation. I'm up to 168K been great so far no complaints even considering getting another 3G. Right now I'm looking at two options I'd like to get some opinions on.
I want to stay in the >25K price range for the next car, I did some searches and saw that I could easily get one of these.
2009 5AT 3.5L TL with Technology (with around 30K miles on it)
2007/2008 Type-S (with around 60K miles on it)
I'm tempted by the extra power in the Type-S and I know it will move faster than the 2009. But the 2009 is a new animal altogether; any thoughts

If the 09 was the SHAWD, I would say get that but since it isn't I would say look for a 08 S w/ a 6MT.

If you want a car that grants people the ability to say, "That's one nice looking sedan." Get the type s.
If you want a car that grants people the ability to say, "what the hell is that ugly thing?"
Then get the 2009.

LJ, first, welcome to Acurazine.
Second, drive both the cars. The '09 Tech is very cool, if you like bells and whistles. But the Type S-it's tough to beat.

I'm kind of getting the same thing with wanting something new since I've been in my 04 TL for the last 5 years but I live in NY so I'm a little reluctant to do the RWD thing without a winter vehicle.
Also, the Type-S in terms of affordability, power and tech options is REALLY tough to beat. To get a similarly packaged 335 or G i'm def paying more. Forget about a 5 series.

Well my base now doesn't have critical problems but I need to fix/replace a handful of things and I know it's going to add up to over 2K. Looking at the numbers if I take what I would have paid for the repairs and just add it to down payment along with my trade in value I can grab a type-s for a good deal. That's why I'm started considering changing up.

If you like convenience of touch screen navigation- type s. if you a giant knob/dial to navigae around the map- 4th generation TL. IMO touch screen seems more high tech than a knob. and its so much easier to type with touch screen rather than rotating a pad lock

^^This!! Even the 3 series bimmers have that stupid knob. Touch screen is so much simpler

Why not stay with Acura? My personal viewpoint on Acura vs BMW,Benz,Infiniti,Audi etc is I always feel like I'm getting way more bang for my buck. Some will say "your buying a luxury vehicle why does it matter" maybe to some that's true but to me no matter how much $ I have I'm going to get the most out of every dollar. I feel like Acura does that the best for me. Any suggestions to what tops them in your opinion? I'm always up for suggestions!

The only way I would recommend getting a 4G is if it were the newer updated 2012+ but those are still high 30's+. So in other words do not get a 2009-2011 4G because it just looks so awkward. The 2012+ cars do look MUCH better but its still very expensive right now.

Go for the S. You'll really love the difference between that and the base. Since you already have navi, you're already familiar with the voice activated everything. There are deals to be had if you're willing to travel to get it like I had done.

I thought for sure this was going to be another G37 thread. Glad you're staying in the family. Get the UA7.

The G37 is cool but if I'm all about the coupe when it comes to that and I have a 2yr old son with enough need for space that I'm almost ready to get an MDX!
Anyone gone from a Base to a Type-S like I'm planning to do here?

I flew to NYC to get my TL-S
Me . My base didn't have navi so coming into the TL-S with navi was a huge surprise as I had only thought it was just for navigation only and not voice activation for everything. My base was a 6MT as well is my S. The MT seems to have better pick up than my base. I'm not sure if the steering wheel on the S is thicker, too, but it feels like it.

I found mine in Ohio, and I live in SoCal so instead of flying I'm paying for a truck to deliver it. Just have to be dedicated to searching the web to find exactly what ya want

I'm a lot clearer now on getting the Type-S after hearing from some fellow TL owners.
