Newspaper Delivery Route

Hi guys, I am considering delivering newspapers for 35 an hour for 3 hours everyday, who knows why the pay is so high, but I was wondering if the TL or cars in general will break down faster if i have to make 50-60 stops EVERYDAY. Meaning start up my engine 50 times a day and stop it 50 times a day.... anythoughts would be HIGHLY appreciated~!

how about getting a moped or scooter? better yet, a bicycle. saves gas money and wear and tear on your car.

WOW my delivery route pays me 60 an hour and i get to work 8 hours a day 8 days a week, got some great posts man! Get a mail truck! If you have to ask of the wear and tear of starting your car 50 times a day you need to start reading.

Whoops... I misread the post. I thought he was asking about stopping (as in appling the brakes) and starting (as in accelerating from a stop).

If he really meant turning the ignition off 60 times per day.... YEA, THATS BAD, BAD, BAD

That $35 an hour doesn't look like so much when you consider all the wear and tear on the car, the price of gas, and the maintenance required, not to mention the depreciation on the TL, and the income taxes, meaning he will probably be working for close to nothing except the thrill of tossing newspapers.

Uh, the paper guy doesn't start and stop his/her engine to deliver a paper...hell, they don't even completely stop the car with their brakes...just slow down and throw (I guess if you have a paper box, they do stop the car, but the engine is not turned on and off). None the less, the gas money to run the route would practically eat up any money you would make.

He's not going to use $105 in gas in 3 hrs. I'd be surpised if he used a quarter tank a day. The wear and tear...that's another issue.

I used to deliver pizza's. On an 8 hr day, I'd only use a quarter tank of gas and leave with about $150 in cash...

If you aren't getting reimbursed mileage though, you can write it off at the end of the year.

Yep, my paper guy just slows and throws.

Never asked him about the thrill of tossing the paper though. That makes the gas expense completely worthwhile...

My view: If it is just stop and go, it is ok, but I would find a more economical/beater car.

Well, my TL is costing me about $0.50 a mile when you consider insurance, fuel, depreciation, etc across 5 years.

Find out the length of your route and subtract your car expenses before you accept.

You should definitely find some beater. For like $2500 you should be able to find a cheap fuel efficient car (think GM schlop like a saturn or chevy cavalier) that gets over 30mpg in stop-and-go and when you put an additional 50k miles on it, who cares?
