Newbie here. I could use some help please.
I recently purchased a 2006 Acura TL for my daughter.
The navigation unit keeps rebooting every 30 seconds or so. I'm going to start trouble shooting it very soon but I have a question first.
I thought I read somewhere that you can upgrade a 3rd generation (2006) navigation to a 4th generation (2007). Is this correct?
I have searched hi and low and I can't find where I originally read that.
If this is true, can someone please point me in the right direct please.
If I have to start replacing major parts in the navigation system then I would rather just upgrade.
Thank you in advance!

You can't upgrade to the 07-08 TL Navi its different system from the 04-06 Navi, according to what you described the Navi DVD drive (locare inside the trunk) has gone bad. You have several options to choose from here.
1. Leave it as is
2. Remove the DVD drive and send to Alpine cost around $550 - $600 shipped.
3. Buying a used working unit and replace it (you will need to acquire new Navi code for the new drive)
4. Doing custom Tablet retrofit (Mr. Ortiz has a nice write up on this one)
5. UNLESS you want to pay for the full price drive which cost close to $4k.

Your best bet is to find a new, used unit. They can be had for around $150-$200 last I checked. For a quick possible fix, remove the old dvd drive and try cleaning it with compressed dry air from a can. Could just be dirty.
The thread also has descriptions of disassembly of the drive for deep cleaning and for replacement of lenses and parts further into the thread.
If there are deep circular scratches in the DVD, there's a mechanical problem with the DVD.
G/L, and welcome to AZ.
