Question Newb trying to buy a 2006 TL

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I have a BMW M3, but have been a fan of the TL ever since. I finally found one that I might bite the bullet and purchase. It's a 2006 TL auto navigation Black pearl with 21k miles for $28k. Couldn't find anything wrong with it except one of the rear wheels has curb rash, but I'm trying to work it out with the dealership to switch it with another one of their other cars for sale.

Is there anything that I should look for in the car? Any known problems that people encounter often that I should check out? Any information that you guys can give me, I would greatly appreciate it.

TIA

U have a e46 Me or E36? If it's the E46, i'd say STICK WITH THE E46!!!! omg. lol. I'd trade my car in one in a heartbeat. =P

There aren't much problems with the TL's usually. I drive a 06 myself. The most common would be the rattles. What are u using this TL for? Communiting?Racing?Cruise?? It's def.a nice cruiser, with class. Good car to roll up in the club with..

I guess if it's an auto, transmission issues will eventually catch up way later in the TL's life. Rattles are typical but easily fixed. Other than that there's not much more than that.

I also have an 06/ Navi- the car has been perfect. I have been lucky in that I have no rattles in my car. It only was serviced once under warranty for a bad EGR valve, but other than that, no problems.

i have an 06 tl that is 2 years old and has gone 32,000 miles. it is my 6th honda and it does everything well and has been trouble free. i especially like the tpms, the satelite radio, and the heating/cooling system. on the road it gets 28 - 33 mpg.

Nope. It's a Honda - that's kind of the whole idea. My last car was an E36 non-M, with performance mods. The endless $x00 repairs got me to go back to Honda. Otherwise I be waiting on the 1-series.

Me too.
I had a 98 M3 and if I did not use the TL for business I would rather drive the M3.

I'm not getting rid of the M. Just getting a TL as a DD and should be a little bit better in the snow. What type of rattling are you guys talking about? Easy fixes?

I was going to wait for the 135i also, but its only 150lbs lighter then the 335i and starts at $34k. If I get another BMW, I'd want to do some work on it and probably do some auto-x. Getting the TL would be a nice DD since I do commutes anywhere from 30mins to 1.5hrs everyday.

How is the gas mileage on these cars? Are there any recalls or any other minor problems with the car that needs to be checked out?

I would say try to find a six speed if you can. I have a six speed 06 with navi and I love it. The interior is second to none, the navi is perfect and the six speed is very fast. A car that gets 25 mpg and will do 150 mph is the only way to go. Good luck with the car shopping and black is always a good color to go with.

I was tempted by the 135i as well but it is too damn heavy. The TL makes a great daily driver. The 6 speed with a light foot can average over 30 mpg very easily. I average between 28 and 33 mpg with a lot of freeway driving. I have no rattles.
