New warranty question.. not the same old one

Hey guys..

I was looking for your opinion on this.. I know everyone says that you need and extended warranty if you have nav, and I agree.

But in Florida, its such a rip off -- its a state law that you have to buy an acuracare warranty from a florida dealer, so here is the price difference on a 7 yr/100k:

price from honda acura world = $1450

price from florida dealer = $2850 (no negotioation is possible -- all florida dealers must charge this price)

so is it still worth it to pay 1400 more for the same warranty? or should I just put the money in the bank? I dont really want to go with a 3rd party warranty, because of all of the hassles, plus they could go bankrupt

what do you think?

IMO its worth it. I paid about the same for my TL and I get free service loaners from Courtesy acura, and the tech's there are good at what they do. The TL's electronics will easily make up for that cost, plus the loaners, etc. I have easily had about 3K worth of warranty work done at the warranty's dime. Have you talked to heather martin @ courtesy acura? If so PM me and I might be able to help you out.

Really a personal decision. I decided to self insure and time will tell if it was a good idea. I'm currently @ just over 50k so just out of factory warranty. My car has been very close to perfect. My biggest concern is actually the auto transmission do to history.

If something bad happens I'll deal with it at that time.

BTW if you have an 04 TL or 05 TL, you'll really appreciate the warranty when the time for the transmission comes. The 04/05 tran's are a hit or miss.

Wow! That is a lot for an extended warranty. I wonder if you bought the warranty from Hondacuraworld, it would be honored here in FL??

Try going to a honda dealer.
The finance guy at the honda dealer where my mom bought two cars quoted me $1,100

I tried HondacuraWorld also and they don't do any warranties for Florida resident. Don't know why? I live in Orlando and I just bought a warranty (AcuraCare) for 4/48,000 for $1,940 for my 05 TL w/nav. from Fountain Acura. My car had 56,000 miles on it and I think it's worth if you have Nav. It'll cover the car until it reach 104,000 miles.

why do you think that just because you have the nav you need or have to have the extended warranty....thats just a stupid statement...

now if the state of florida mandates that you purchase an extended warranty, well thats stupid too....

florida law says it can be only purchased from the dealer at a set price so there is no real competition.

Fixing anything electrical on a car is expensive and for the price of $1,940 for a warranty is cheaper than fixing an electrical problem on any car.
