New User looking for a TL

Well, it's finally happened.... Although I (un)happily live the life of a professional student, it's time for me to get a car. Unfortunately, this is where things go downhill.

I'm looking to spend around 15-16k, and I was wondering what year TL is reasonable to look for. I've loved the 3rd Gen TL's for a long while now, and I would love it to be my 1st car.

I was hoping for an '06, but I'm not sure if I'm being overzealous. If anyone can help me out, or point me in any (good) direction, I would be grateful. I've been lurking these forums for a while and everyone here seems friendly, supportive and helpful.

And just for comparison, what are your impressions on an 06 TL with 50k miles, navi, black/black, clean carfax (haven't run it yet), and all maintenance records?

Thanks, I'd appreciate anyone's

Cheers.

in the 15-16k price range, an 06, especially the one you described, will be pretty hard to come by. i got my 06 5at w/ 41k miles and navi about 6 weeks ago for about 17.5k after tt&l but that is only because i knew the dealer. it sold at auction for 15k because it had reported frame damage (there was none though). he could have easily sold that car for at least 19-20k.

if you do find an 06 for that price, itll likely have higher mileage. i would shoot for an 05 from a private dealer and you should be able to find a good price.

reviews and reliability

Since you're in the market for a new 3rd gen TL, and I'm interested in one myself in the future. I was wondering if anyone could share or post some thoughts on the reliability of the 3rd gen TL's and state any common known issues with the cars like with the transmissions of the 2nd gen TL, maintenance cost, repairs etc.

ashkooly, thanks. appreciate it.

If anyone has any other thought, they'd be welcomed.

jarred, could you please make your own thread about your questions. (or search for what you're asking for as it's been covered before). I'm just trying (in this thread) to get a feel for where I stand in the market.

So I guess I'm pretty much not looking at a 2006? I was hoping prices might be lower for the TL as it comes to the end of the year..

I'd like the WDP one if possible, but I know that beggars can't be choosers!.

Welcome to AZ. If prices in Philly are close to what they are in MD, your looking at around 21,000 sticker. I was looking for pretty much for the same car you were (06, >50K miles, Navi) and 20,900 was the best I could find from a dealer. My best advice would be to be patient and don't settle until you find exactly what you want unless you NEED a car right now. I looked around for a long time before finding a TL with everything I wanted. It was tough but worth it.

Btw, if you can make a trip to Jersey or NY you may have better luck. I remember members in those areas posting some good deals.

go to the top of any page here- top right corner, OFF TOPIC - click that
then click Member Cars for Sale

thats everyone here with their ride ready for a new owner
most would be well cared for, as they belong to azine and have access to tech info

Thanks.

Yea, I'm in no huge need for it right away. I have some time before I fig. it'll get down to the wire.... Good ol' public transport till then. But you're right. I'm gonna keep looking (esp. in the NJ/NY areas) until I find something I can afford.

I looked at the member cars for sale. Only a few being sold around this area and most are a good amt. over my budget. Looks like I'll just keep my eyes open and hope for a lil' luck!.

You can definetly be able to find a car with low miles and for a cheap price in out of state out of place dealerships. Here in tucson, AZ i got my 05TL6spd, nav package with 30k miles for 18k OTD. Look around your area from Autotrader and if none is in your area go look for 600 miles radius. Its better to fly out somewhere rather than pay 21k OTD and then 60k miles because its close to you. jus my 2 Cents.

I know everyone always pushes for the MT, but is there any reason for this?? I mean, I love driving MT, but it's a pain in stop/go traffic when going to/from work.

What advantage does the MT have over the AT?

Am I being realistic? (flames welcome)

Hey ya'll.

I've been lurking for a long time now, and only recently became a honest-to-goodness member.

I'm currently in the market for my first car,a TL, (as i'm sure some of you have seen from previous posts of mine.

Basically, I want to know how realistic I'm being. I've set a 'hard' budget for myself at $16,000 (if i could spend less, that would be great, but that's top limit).

Is it realistic to look for an '06 for that kind of money? And if so, what kind of mileage should I be expecting to see on an '06 with what I'm looking to spend?

Conversely? What about an '05. What kind of mileage should I be able to get for $16K?

Most of the TL's I've seen on craigslist/autotrader/cars.com are sitting in the mid 60k - low 70k miles.

Any help would be appreciated. If anyone has some free time in the philly area on wknds some time, would appreciate meeting up to talk about any/all of this.

Thanks all.

PS. I'm sure a bunch of you got AMAZING deals (don't know how) on your rides, but I'm rarely that lucky, so I just want to know where I sit in the "real" world.

Everyone can get amazing deals, it just depends on your patients and diligence.

For 16k, it is possible to get a 30-40k mile car, it may not come with Navigation though.

Good luck with finding one, but check the BM section of these forums, and others that you've already stated. Also try to search in other states around you. If it is going to save you a lot of cash, and you get a better quality car (miles wise), than why not!

You will prob be able to find one without Navi with around 70k miles in that price range. I bought my 05 Navi, 42k miles automatic for 21 OTD. I thought I got a decent price since the car is in near perfect condition. With 16 thousand, if you keep your eyes open, and keep waiting, you will find what you are looking for.

It is possible to get an 06 for 16k. I see a 06 TL in my area going for 14.8 w/44k miles with navi on cars.com

For 16k, I see a 05 with 60-80k miles or 06 with 50-70 miles average. Good luck on ur purchase. Be patient

Dude it's very possible. Maybe an 06 with like 60K, just have to look around. Be patient and yours will come to you.

I bought mine a year ago for $16K and it's an 05 w/32k. Anything is possible

Sunday I sold my '05 WDP NAVI for 16K, 76K miles but i left all my parts on too. 07-08 mirrors, chrome grille, 07-08 tails, mint black chrome a-specs, 6K headlights, cleared headlights with ZKWr's. and my car was clean inside and out. i still feel like i took a lost but i needed to get rid of it already.

HA, yea "when"....... I'm a picky SOB. but I know that beggers can't be choosers. But WHEN I do get it, first thing I do (after a good cleaning), is post up pics... (it won't be anything amazing as it will likely be stock).

InFaMouS, I saw your ride while I've been looking. I'm sure it's a great ride, but the high miles kinda threw me..

I found a '07 with 80K miles for about the same price....

^ Infamous's WDP was a solid ride & his mods were very clean. $16k was a good deal for whoever bought it. Miles & year are less important than who you're buying it from and what mods are on it IMO.

That's all very good and well, and I'm sure it was a great deal for whoever bought it.

But I'm new to this, and it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Why did you give her up? You planning on anything new with the MT? I'm surprised you didn't swap the headlights. Keep us updated with your progress.

Yea, I've looked there. That's more ppl. selling cars that are theirs. I was wondering if there was an area if ppl. found/saw a good deal and wanted to share it with everyone else (in case they knew someone was interested.). Otherwise, I'll just have to relegate myself to making WTB thread(s).

Trying to keep a lil' distance from the '04's since I've heard of some of them having bad luck with the Tranny (and it was fixed in '05). I know A LOT of you have 04's that are just fine, but with my luck, i'll get the FUBAR'd one!.

Don't know how many more views this will get, but will try to keep it all in 1 thread.

Just some thoughts if ya'll don't mind.. was perusing through Autotrader and came across an ad for (kinda) what I was looking for.

it's an 05 TL, DGP (green)exterior, Tan interior, 29,xxx miles WITH Navi. for $16,995.

It's being sold through an Acura dealership in Queens. (have to look up reviews for the dealership). Description on autotrader looks like it's CPO (which, I know doesn't mean much).

It's really outta wack with their pricing.... Seems like all their other '05s and '06s (with much higher miles), are significantely more expensive.

Would ya'll just tell me what to look out for when/if I go take a look at this ride?

thanks muchly.
