new tl owner saying hello, downgraded to a tl

just saying hello to every one, i just purchased a 2004 acura tl in white fully loaded and looking to dosome tastefull mods in the future

my wife made me sell the 2008 evo x that i raced and by something more reasonable and a lot more affordable,

the evo x put down 430 hp off the stock turbo with minor bolts ons and ran a consistant 12.50s and lower, it was a beast

the tl is a great car for the money and looking foward to owning a luxury car for the first time in 15 years, i have always oned sti, evo's, and dsm's

i will post pics of the timeslips, dyno sheets and photo shoots, from the evo and post pics of the new acura TL when i get some time

this is a pic from 3 weeks ago of the evo

Yup, married life takes priority, unless one has enough money to have multiple vehicles, but hard to do for the normal young married person, especially if little ones might be expected in the future and/or a home purchased being contemplated.

Good luck with the TL and keep the money in your pocket and forget about the mods. Got to bite the bullet sometime, but you will get annoyed when someone comes up alongside of you in Evo, STI or riced up econobox.

Good luck

Dont consider it downgrading, just the opposite in fact, youll begin to love the luxury feel and amenities that your TL will give you

the one i picked up has some major dash cracks its amazing that this is a common thing for these cars? or is it just me ?

also this feels like a boat i guess some better rims and tires and lower the stance some will help sharpen the car out some,

is there a florida group or orlando group of acura tl owners?

for sheer power, handling and braking its a major downgrade,

for luxury and comfort its a major upgrade,

comparing a evo x with super AWD with yaw control and super sticky 18x9.5 with 265's on all 4 corners with fully adjustable coilovers its a complete monster

i really dont feel safe in the tl it feels like a boat, and FWD is pretty much usless for anything,

but the ride and confort is awsome in the tl, the materials are much better, navigation is nice

the seats are comfy but nothing compares to the factory recaros, but again on long raod trips those hurt eventually,

i like the fact the TL is cheap to work on and very reliable,

with a nice set of rims lowered a little bit it looks nice,

we really cant compare the 2, one is great for luxury car and one is a power house, and if any says a acura tl can out handle, brake or accelrate with the same modifitcations is out of their mind

i look foward to enjoying the tl and riding in comfort !

Get the A-Spec suspension and upgrade your rear sway bar. That will get rid of a lot of that "boat" feeling for you.

Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your new (to you) TL! I came from the same type of thing, I had two Subarus (TXS Stage 4 WRX and a fully built 2.8L GT35 STi) and my TL-S has been the best car I've owned so far. Not the fastest obviously, but you will find yourself really thanking yourself on long drives.

Way to introduce yourself, downgrading to a TL.

It doesn't exactly look like a TL killer in stock form:

0-60 mph: 5.6 seconds (5.3 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip)
Quarter-mile: 14.0 seconds at 97.4 mph
60-0 braking: 111 feet
Slalom: 68.9 mph
Skid pad: 0.92g

'04 TL A-spec (non type S)

Zero to 60 mph: 5.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.5 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 28.4 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 99 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 174 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.90 g
Slalom 66.7 mph

I may be wrong here, but the TL seems to hold it's own despite the body roll and more comfortable suspension. Let's not forget that the EVO is equipped with a much better tire from the factory.

I know all about turbo cars and their moddability but someone had to respond to the "downgrade" comment.

^I agree with what he said. The TL is no slouch! The TL is an awesome blend of comfort and power. I bet it feels like a Benz compared to your Evo, although that thing was sexy as hell.

quik pic of the new tl

here is some you tube videos of the evo x on the dyno and idling

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qrb5f5rQXyI

this is one of runs at the track time slip, basic bolt ons, exhaust intake and reflash are the only modifications, the car was capable of running 11s with a bigger intercooler, better 60' and shed some extra weight.

the 12.50 run was fully loaded on pump gas

Congrats and welcome to AZ Check out the 3G garage for tons of info. Also register your TL at www.myacura.com. Save your Navi and Radio codes there. Check for any recalls your TL may need.

I am so sorry you have to endure with your downgrade. I am sure you feel sorry for us TL owners - driving our under performing vehicles. If you could please post more about how great your old car was so we have perspective on just how bad we got it.

welcome the TL after a bit of mods is a different category of sport luxury, you won't be disappointed, just realize that it's just a different type of car than your evo
